Does Boeing sponsor H-1B? As of November 1, 2026, the evidence says rarely, and not through its public job postings. We read 10 US postings on Boeing's careers site that day, across defense, commercial airplanes, IT, corporate and internship roles. Every one said the employer "will not sponsor" employment visa status. Nine required a "U.S. Person" under the export-control rules, which F-1, OPT, STEM OPT and H-1B holders are not, and the tenth required a clearance that only US citizens can hold. In our index of USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub records for FY2024 through part of FY2026, no Boeing entity is among the 1,024 employers with 100 or more H-1B decisions.

Where the rules stand (as of 2026-11-01):

Does Boeing sponsor H-1B visas? The short answer

As of 2026-11-01, Boeing's US job postings say it will not sponsor employment visas, and most require a "U.S. Person" for export-control reasons: a US citizen or national, a green-card holder, a refugee or an asylee. F-1, OPT, STEM OPT and H-1B holders do not qualify. In our index of USCIS Hub data for FY2024 through part of FY2026, no Boeing entity has 100 or more H-1B decisions.

Three separate gates sit on a Boeing posting:

  1. Export control. Can Boeing share the job's technical data with you without a government license?
  2. Security clearance. Does the job need a clearance, which requires US citizenship?
  3. Sponsorship. Will Boeing file a work-visa petition for you?

Failing any one closes the role. The surprise is that gate 1 is not limited to fighter jets and satellites.

What Boeing's job postings say (as of 2026-11-01)

The 10 postings below are a small sample, not a census, and postings change daily, but the pattern was uniform.

The standard wording, verbatim from the Everett procurement posting: "To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a 'U.S. Person' as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required," then "'U.S. Person' includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee," then "Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status."

The 787 stress-analysis and Everett procurement roles carried the same U.S. Person block as the satellite and defense roles, and so did an IT architecture role and an HR benefits-data role. "Commercial" did not mean open.

Two details. Some postings, including the Wichita internship, still cite "22 C.F.R. §120.15", the definition's section number before the ITAR was renumbered; the current text is at §120.62. And a Hamburg, Germany posting read "This is not an Export Control position," yet said "Boeing will not provide immigration or labour sponsorship for any applicants" and required current authorization to work in Germany.

What does ITAR mean on a Boeing job posting?

ITAR is the State Department's International Traffic in Arms Regulations, which control defense articles and related technical data. A "U.S. Person" line tells you Boeing has classed the job as one that must meet export-control requirements, and will fill it only with someone who can receive controlled technology without an export license.

The definition in 22 CFR 120.62 reads: "U.S. person means a person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)." Its mirror image, 22 CFR 120.63, defines a foreign person as "any natural person who is not a lawful permanent resident" or protected individual.

Our reading: every temporary status leaves you a foreign person, including F-1, OPT, STEM OPT, H-1B, H-4, L-1, O-1 and TN. A pending I-485 or an approved I-140 does not change that; being granted permanent residence does. Our guide to the "Are you a U.S. person?" export-control question covers how to answer it honestly on an application.

Why are Boeing's commercial airplane jobs screened too?

Much civil aircraft technology falls under the Commerce Department's Export Administration Regulations (EAR) rather than ITAR, and the EAR has its own rule. Under 15 CFR 734.13, "Any release in the United States of 'technology' or source code to a foreign person is a deemed export," treated as an export to that person's most recent country of citizenship or permanent residency.

So sharing controlled technical data with a foreign-national engineer in South Carolina is treated like sending it abroad. The Bureau of Industry and Security's deemed exports page links to guidance on deemed-export license applications, so licenses exist. A "US Person required" posting means Boeing has limited that role to people who need none; it does not say whether a license could be obtained.

How to read the three lines on a Boeing posting

What each Boeing posting line means for a visa holder (as of 2026-11)

Line on the postingWhat it means on F-1, OPT, STEM OPT or H-1BWhat would change it
"a 'U.S. Person' as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required"You do not meet the stated requirementA green card, or refugee or asylee status
"requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship"Closed to green-card holders tooUS citizenship
"Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status"No H-1B or other work-visa petition from this roleNothing you control; a different role or employer
"This is not an Export Control position." (seen on a Hamburg posting)No export barrier on that roleStill read the sponsorship and work-authorization lines

Does Boeing hire international students?

On F-1 status in the US, the doors are narrow. The Summer 2027 paid internship we read in Wichita required a U.S. Person, so curricular practical training (CPT) would not have satisfied it; CPT authorizes work without changing your person status.

The exceptions are limited. Students who hold a green card, or who were admitted as refugees or granted asylum, are U.S. persons. Boeing also posts roles outside the US; on 2026-11-01 its search results included jobs in Bengaluru, São José dos Campos, Hamburg, Bristol, Brisbane and Richmond, Canada. The Hamburg posting asked for local work authorization, which matters if you are weighing a return home.

Can OPT students work at Boeing?

OPT is work authorization, not a change in your status under export law, so an OPT EAD does not meet a U.S. person requirement, however strong your degree.

E-Verify is not the obstacle. Boeing's careers site states "Boeing participates in E-Verify," and E-Verify enrollment is what USCIS requires of STEM OPT employers. The export-control line is what screens out OPT applicants.

The bigger risk is your clock. Post-completion OPT allows 90 days of unemployment and STEM OPT 150 days in total, per the SEVIS Help Hub unemployment counter page. Do not spend those days on a pipeline the posting has already ruled out, and ask your DSO how your days are counted.

Does Boeing sponsor H-1B for software engineers?

Not in anything we read. The entry-level software engineer role in Missouri (Tapestry Solutions, part of Boeing Global Services) and the cloud architect role listed for Seattle both required a U.S. Person, and both said the employer will not sponsor. The Missouri role also needs a Secret clearance after start, which requires citizenship. The Hub reports petitions by employer, not by team or job title, so it cannot tell you whether one Boeing software group ever files.

Indeed Hiring Lab's October 22, 2026 snapshot put its engineering postings index at about 145 (February 1, 2020 = 100) and software development at about 78-79, the lowest of the five sectors charted, with Seattle's local index at 67. Engineering is the strongest of those sectors, yet every US Boeing engineering posting we read carried a U.S. person or clearance requirement.

Third-party H-1B sites list a small number of Boeing Labor Condition Applications, and their counts disagree. An LCA is a Department of Labor filing, not a USCIS petition or an approval.

How to check Boeing's H-1B and green card record yourself

  1. Open the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub, pick a fiscal year (as of 2026-11-01 it says it covers FY2009 through FY2026 Q4), and search "BOEING" rather than a division name.
  2. Read the initial and continuing columns separately, using the Hub's own definitions; initial approvals are the closer proxy for new hires, and continuing approvals are mostly people already on H-1B.
  3. Check related legal entities one by one. The Hub identifies employers by the last four digits of their tax ID, and a subsidiary named in Boeing postings, such as Spirit AeroSystems or Tapestry Solutions, would appear under its own legal name.
  4. Download the LCA and PERM disclosure files from the Department of Labor's OFLC performance data page; the latest run through FY2026 Q3 (2026-06-30).
  5. Ask the recruiter one plain question ("Is this role open to candidates who need H-1B sponsorship?") and answer any U.S. person question truthfully.
  6. Take OPT and STEM OPT timing questions to your DSO, and green card or petition strategy to a licensed immigration attorney.

Our walkthrough of how to check whether a company sponsors H-1B applies the same tools to any employer.

Does Boeing sponsor green cards?

Boeing's postings are silent on green cards, and we found no public statement either way as of 2026-11-01. DOL's PERM disclosure data is where employer labor certifications show up; our PERM lookup guide shows how to search it.

The green card is the hinge. Once permanent residence is granted, you are a U.S. person under 22 CFR 120.62 and meet the export-control line on Boeing roles that need no clearance; clearance roles still require citizenship. The catch is that for most F-1 graduates an employment-based green card runs through an employer that has already hired them on a work visa, and the postings we read rule that out at Boeing. Waits are long anywhere: as of 2026-10-21, DOL's FLAG processing times page showed PERM analyst review at January 2026 priority dates, with an average of 303 days for its latest month (August 2026). Check the live page before you plan around it.

Common misconception: "If a staffing firm sponsors my H-1B, I can work on a Boeing export-controlled program as a contractor."

Correction: Export rules follow the technology, not the paycheck. Under 15 CFR 734.13, releasing controlled technology to a foreign person in the United States is a deemed export whoever employs that person, and the ITAR definition turns on your immigration status, not your employer. Our reading: a contractor seat on a "US Person required" program carries the same requirement.

Worked example: a STEM-eligible aerospace grad in November 2026

You finished an MS in aerospace engineering in May 2026. Your post-completion OPT EAD runs to 2027-06-30 (dates for illustration), and you work at an E-Verify-enrolled composites supplier.

DateWhat happensWhat it means
2026-11-01You find Boeing's 787 stress-analysis postingIt requires a U.S. Person, which you are not, so you skip it
November 2026You target non-ITAR aerospace employers and suppliersYour 90-day OPT unemployment limit stays untouched while you keep your current job
Before 2027-06-30You and your employer complete the Form I-983 training plan, your DSO recommends STEM OPT in SEVIS, and you file the I-765 before the EAD expiresA timely filing keeps the 180-day automatic extension if the EAD runs out while the case is pending (in effect as of 2026-11-01); confirm the filing window with your DSO
FY2028 cap seasonYour employer decides whether to register youRegistration is not announced; USCIS must give 30 days' notice, and wage-weighted selection is in effect
Years later, if you get a green cardYou become a U.S. personYou now meet the U.S. person line on Boeing roles that need no clearance

The lesson is sequencing: Boeing may be a destination after a green card, not the employer that gets you there.

Where international aerospace grads get hired instead

Aerospace is not closed to you; specific programs are. Our overview of aerospace jobs and the ITAR citizenship wall covers the defense-versus-commercial split across the industry, though at Boeing the postings we read show that split does not open commercial roles. For employers that do sponsor, start with our list of defense and aerospace tech companies that sponsor H-1B in non-ITAR roles. If you trained for flight operations, maintenance or airline engineering, read the visa realities of aviation careers before you narrow your search to airframers.

Frequently asked questions

Does Boeing hire international students?

Rarely on F-1 status in the US. All 10 US Boeing postings we read on 2026-11-01, including a Summer 2027 paid internship, said the employer will not sponsor employment visa status, and nine required a "U.S. Person" for export control. Students who hold a green card, refugee or asylee status are U.S. persons.

Does Boeing sponsor H-1B for software engineers?

Not in the postings we read. On 2026-11-01 an entry-level software engineer role in Missouri and a cloud architect role listed for Seattle both required a "U.S. Person" under 22 C.F.R. 120.62 and said the employer will not sponsor; the Missouri role also needs a Secret clearance. USCIS Hub data does not break petitions down by team.

What does ITAR mean on a Boeing job posting?

ITAR is the State Department's International Traffic in Arms Regulations. A Boeing line requiring a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.62 is met only by a US citizen or national, a green-card holder, a refugee or an asylee. F-1, OPT, STEM OPT and H-1B holders are foreign persons under 22 C.F.R. 120.63 (text read 2026-11-01).

Can OPT students work at Boeing?

OPT is work authorization, not U.S. person status, so it does not meet a posting that requires a U.S. person. Nine of the ten US Boeing postings we read on 2026-11-01 required one, and the tenth required a clearance only citizens can get. Your OPT unemployment limit (90 days, or 150 in total with STEM OPT) keeps running while you wait.

Does Boeing sponsor green cards?

Boeing's postings do not say, and we found no public statement either way as of 2026-11-01. Check the Department of Labor's PERM disclosure data, whose latest public file covers FY2026 Q3. A green card would make you a U.S. person for export-control purposes, but clearance roles still require US citizenship.

How we checked this: we read the Boeing postings above on jobs.boeing.com, the current text of 22 CFR 120.62, 120.63 and 15 CFR 734.13, and the USCIS, DOL, SEVP and Indeed pages listed, all on 2026-11-01; the 100-decision check comes from our index of USCIS Employer Data Hub records for FY2024 through part of FY2026.

This is general information, not legal or tax advice; your own I-20, EAD and notices, your DSO and a licensed immigration attorney govern your situation.
