Does Disney Sponsor H-1B Visas? Streaming, Parks Tech and Data Roles for International Candidates

Disney does sponsor H-1B visas, but only for certain teams. Here is how to tell which Disney roles are realistic on OPT and which are not.

You found a Disney+ engineering posting, a parks pricing role or a Pixar pipeline job. You are on OPT or STEM OPT, the unemployment clock is running, and the form asks whether you will "now or in the future require sponsorship." So, does Disney sponsor H-1B visas?

Yes, Disney sponsors H-1B visas, but selectively. Disney entities appear in public H-1B and Labor Condition Application (LCA) records, and the roles that fit the H-1B best are technology, data, engineering and analytics jobs in streaming, parks technology, the studios and corporate functions. Disney is a for-profit, cap-subject employer, so a first H-1B for an F-1 student usually goes through the lottery. Sponsorship is decided per role and per team, so verify the specific job, not the brand.

Status as of October 2026. Wage-weighted H-1B selection is in effect (since 2026-02-27). The $100,000 H-1B fee is blocked by two courts, even though Proclamation 11069 extended the entry restriction to 2027-09-21. The $103,265 cap-subject fee is proposed, not final. EO 14431 (layoffs as an H-1B factor) is in effect as a directive, with no implementing guidance. The OPT fees are proposed. FY2028 registration dates have not been announced.

Does Disney sponsor H-1B for every team?

No. Streaming, Experiences (parks, resorts, cruise and Imagineering), the studios, ESPN and corporate run separate hiring pipelines, often under separate legal entities, and the entity on your offer letter files your petition. The H-1B also covers only specialty occupations, jobs that normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific, related field. That rule, not Disney's attitude toward visas, rules out most front-line park and resort work.

How to verify a Disney role before you apply

Use public records, not forum posts, the same way our guide on how to check if a company sponsors H-1B explains for any employer.

  1. Find the legal entity on the posting, careers site or offer letter.
  2. Search the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub under every name variant you find. The Data Hub covers FY2009 through FY2026 Q3 only, so any "FY2026 Q4" ranking you see online is not based on complete official data.
  3. Search DOL LCA disclosure data on the OFLC performance data page for your job title and worksite city. Note the SOC code and the wage level.
  4. Read the posting. If it says the role cannot sponsor, believe it, even if the company sponsors elsewhere.
  5. Ask the recruiter neutrally after the first screen whether the role is open to candidates who will need H-1B sponsorship.
  6. For STEM OPT, confirm E-Verify. A STEM OPT employer must be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm the Form I-983 process with your DSO.

An LCA states an intent to employ at a given wage. It is not an approved petition or a lottery selection, so treat LCA history as a signal, nothing more.

What the wage-weighted lottery means for a Disney offer

Since 2026-02-27, the wage-weighted selection rule has been in effect. Each registration is entered once for Wage Level I, twice for Level II, three times for Level III and four times for Level IV. It was used for the FY2027 cap season, and no change for FY2028 has been proposed.

Your wage level depends on your offered salary compared with the DOL prevailing wage for your SOC code in the worksite's metro area, so the same title can map to different levels in different Disney offices. Our explainer on the wage-weighted H-1B lottery mechanism walks through the math. The level must match the real duties and wage; the employer's immigration counsel decides it.

EO 14431 does not define "layoffs", so nobody can yet say how a sponsor's workforce history will be weighed in a given petition. Ask an immigration attorney; it is not a reason to skip applying.

Streaming tech: Disney's most software-heavy business

Streaming means video playback across devices, data pipelines, recommendations, subscriber platforms and an advertising stack, which matches the national picture. In DOL's OFLC data for FY2026 through Q3, software developers were 29.1% of the 830,710 certified LCA positions, by far the largest single occupation. A streaming backend role sits in the occupation employers file for most often.

From a data background, our guide to data engineer roles at streaming media companies covers the interview loop and transferable skills. For other studios and streamers around Burbank, Glendale and Santa Monica, see our Los Angeles H-1B jobs guide for entertainment and tech.

Parks tech, Imagineering and data roles

Mobile apps, ticketing, reservations, guest-experience technology, demand forecasting, dynamic pricing and labor scheduling all need engineers, data scientists and operations research analysts, and Imagineering hires engineers for ride and show systems. These roles fit the specialty-occupation standard when the job requires a related degree, such as computer science, industrial engineering, operations research or statistics. Seasonal, internship-program and exchange-visa roles are a different track and are not a pipeline into H-1B jobs.

Studio, animation and creative roles

Pixar, Lucasfilm (including Industrial Light & Magic) and Walt Disney Animation hire software engineers for rendering, simulation and pipeline tools, plus technical directors who sit between art and code. Those roles can fit the H-1B when the duties require a CS, math or engineering degree. Pure artistic roles are harder to fit into H-1B because artists are often hired on portfolio rather than a specific degree, and some experienced artists use the O-1B visa instead. Our animation and VFX artist visa guide compares the options; whether you qualify is a question for an immigration attorney.

On-site work and your worksite

Expect most roles to be tied to an office or park campus. According to Robert Half's reported Q2 2026 posting data, 87% of US postings were fully on-site, 10% hybrid and 3% fully remote; that is a wider-market figure, not a Disney one. An LCA is filed for specific worksites, and moving outside that area can require a new LCA and an amended petition, so ask which worksite goes on the paperwork.

Your OPT clock and a Disney hiring timeline

Plan around the unchanged unemployment limits: 90 days on post-completion OPT and 150 days in aggregate with the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Your DSO is the authority on how your days are counted.

A typical sequence for a Disney technology or data role:

  1. Weeks 1-2: Shortlist teams, check entity and LCA history, and line up alumni referrals.
  2. Weeks 2-6: Recruiter screen, technical or case rounds, team match.
  3. Offer stage: Confirm sponsorship in writing, the hiring entity, the worksite, and STEM OPT eligibility (E-Verify plus Form I-983).
  4. Cap season: The employer decides whether to register you. FY2028 registration dates are not announced.

For travel, interview waivers are gone for H-1B, H-4, L-1, F-1 and J-1 applicants, and since 2025-09-06 you apply in your country of nationality or legal residence, not a third country. Do not travel while an OPT or STEM OPT I-765 is pending; ask your DSO before any trip. Check live waits on the travel.state.gov wait-times page, not a number from a forum.

Green card after an H-1B at Disney

Most H-1B workers' green cards run through PERM labor certification, then an I-140 in EB-2 or EB-3. Disney is not among the eight employers in the 2026-10-08 PERM suspension. PERM disclosure data on the same DOL OFLC page shows whether a Disney entity has filed labor certifications for your occupation; ask about green-card timing at the offer stage.

Common mistakes

Frequently asked questions

Does Disney sponsor H-1B visas for international students on OPT?

Yes. Disney entities appear in public H-1B and LCA records, and software, data, engineering and analytics roles fit the H-1B best. Disney is cap-subject, so a first H-1B normally goes through the lottery, which has used wage-weighted selection since 2026-02-27. Sponsorship is decided role by role, so verify the specific team and title.

Which Disney jobs are most likely to come with H-1B sponsorship?

Software, data and engineering roles are the likeliest, because they map cleanly to specialty-occupation degrees. At Disney these sit in streaming technology, parks technology and Imagineering, studio pipeline teams and corporate analytics. Front-line park and resort jobs generally do not meet the specialty-occupation standard, and some studio artistic roles fit the O-1B better.

Is Disney affected by the $100,000 H-1B fee or the DOL PERM suspension?

Proclamation 11069 extended the $100,000 entry restriction to 2027-09-21, but two federal courts have blocked the fee, so it is not being collected as of October 2026. Disney is not one of the eight employers in the PERM suspension DOL announced on 2026-10-08, which covers PERM only.

Will Disney transfer an existing H-1B?

A cap-subject to cap-subject transfer does not send you back to the lottery, because you were already counted against the cap. Whether a Disney team will file one depends on the role, so confirm with the recruiter and have an immigration attorney review timing before you resign.

How can I check whether a Disney team has sponsored my role before?

Search the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub (FY2009 through FY2026 Q3) under each Disney entity name, then search DOL LCA disclosure data for your title and worksite city. An LCA shows an intent to hire at a stated wage, not an approved petition, so treat it as a signal rather than a promise.
