Bentonville and Northwest Arkansas H-1B Jobs: Walmart, J.B. Hunt, Tyson and the Supplier Ecosystem

Walmart accounts for about 82% of the H-1B petitions in our Arkansas data. Here is how OPT and H-1B candidates can work J.B. Hunt, Tyson, the university, suppliers and vendors without betting on one company.

Bentonville H-1B jobs are real, but most of them sit with one company. In the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub extract behind our Arkansas sponsor hub, the 20 Arkansas employers with 25 or more petitions logged 7,816 H-1B petitions across FY2024-FY2026 (FY2026 partial). Wal-Mart Associates Inc in Bentonville accounts for 5,939 of them, plus 485 under a second spelling: about 82% of that total, by our arithmetic. Around it sit J.B. Hunt (Lowell), Tyson Foods (Springdale), the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville), Bentonville IT vendors, and supplier offices whose petitions are usually counted in other states. F1Jobs sells a job-search service, so we have a stake in how you search; every number here is public and checkable.

Status as of 2026-11-01. Wage-weighted H-1B selection is in effect (since 2026-02-27). FY2028 registration is not announced (USCIS must give at least 30 days' notice; March 2027 is only an expectation). The $100,000 payment under Proclamation 11069 is in effect on paper but blocked and not collected; it never covered change-of-status requests USCIS grants inside the US. Ending the 60-day H-1B grace period is proposed (comments close 2026-11-10). OPT unemployment limits (90 days, 150 on STEM OPT) are in effect. E-Verify's authority is funded through 2026-12-11 under the continuing resolution and could lapse after that unless Congress passes funding by then.

Bentonville H-1B jobs at a glance: who sponsors in Northwest Arkansas?

Northwest Arkansas H-1B sponsorship centers on Walmart's Bentonville home office, followed by J.B. Hunt in Lowell, Tyson Foods in Springdale, the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and a layer of Bentonville IT vendors. Private employers are cap-subject and need the lottery; universities are usually cap-exempt. Many Walmart suppliers file their petitions from headquarters outside Arkansas.

Arkansas H-1B sponsors in our hub, USCIS Employer Data Hub extract, petitions FY2024-FY2026 combined (FY2026 partial), as of 2026-11. "Petitions" counts initial and continuing decisions, approvals and denials together.

Petition counts are not job openings; each company page splits new-hire from continuing petitions, which tells you more than the total. For Walmart alone, including the two-spellings trap, read our guide to whether Walmart sponsors H-1B visas.

Why does one employer dominate Arkansas H-1B filings?

Bentonville is Walmart's headquarters, and most other large Arkansas employers file few H-1B petitions in the extract. That concentration is a risk: if a Walmart role ends, the local list of other sponsors is short, and much of the vendor and supplier work exists because Walmart is here, so it tends to rise and fall with Walmart's own hiring (our reading).

Here is what the rules give you if a job ends, as of 2026-11-01:

The practical answer is to run two markets from day one: Northwest Arkansas plus one or two larger metros where your skills transfer. Our guide to relocating to another city for an H-1B sponsor job covers worksite changes, new LCAs and relocation packages; it was written in July 2026, so take current dates from the status line above.

Why do Arkansas H-1B numbers undercount the supplier ecosystem?

Many companies that sell to Walmart keep account teams in Bentonville and Rogers, but their H-1B petitions are filed by the employing company, which is often headquartered in another state. USCIS explains why that matters. On its Understanding Our H-1B Employer Data Hub page, the city field "is the City indicated in the mailing address of the employer and is not necessarily the beneficiary(ies) work location." Our reading: a category analyst in Rogers working for a consumer-goods company headquartered in Ohio counts toward Ohio, in the Data Hub and in our state hubs. The Arkansas total is a floor, not a census.

How do you find H-1B employers by worksite in Northwest Arkansas?

Use the Department of Labor's Labor Condition Application (LCA) disclosure files, which record the worksite city and state for each filing, so out-of-state suppliers with local teams become visible.

  1. Download the latest LCA disclosure file from the DOL Office of Foreign Labor Certification performance data page. As of 2026-11-01 the newest file is FY2026 Q3, covering determinations through 2026-06-30.
  2. Filter the worksite columns for Arkansas and the cities of Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale, Fayetteville and Lowell.
  3. Group the results by employer name and job title to see which out-of-state companies file for local roles.
  4. Look up each employer's legal name in the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub to compare initial and continuing approvals.
  5. Note the prevailing-wage level on each certified LCA. It shows the levels an employer files at for local roles, which matters now that the lottery is wage-weighted.
  6. Search each shortlisted employer's careers page for Northwest Arkansas openings, and mention the LCA history when you ask the recruiter about sponsorship.

An LCA is a filing, not a hire or an approved petition, so treat the list as leads rather than openings. Our walkthrough of how to search LCA filings explains the columns.

What supplier jobs get H-1B sponsorship?

The roles that cluster around a large retailer are analytical: sales and category analysts on a Walmart account team, demand and replenishment planners, supply chain analysts, e-commerce and retail-media analysts, and data engineers. Our supply chain analyst guide for big retail covers those roles and how to frame them on a resume.

The H-1B is limited to specialty occupations, which require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific specialty, so an analytics or engineering role with a defined degree requirement is easier to document than general account sales. Whether a role qualifies is a question for the employer's immigration attorney.

Are supplier jobs open to OPT students?

On post-completion OPT, you can work for any employer, including a supplier's local office, as long as the job is directly related to your field of study. The OPT rules add no E-Verify requirement at that stage.

STEM OPT adds conditions. USCIS's STEM OPT page says the employer must be enrolled in E-Verify, must sign the Form I-983 training plan, and "will have and maintain a bona fide employer-employee relationship with the student." In a small supplier office, the test is whether someone at your actual employer will supervise and evaluate you under that plan; if you would be placed at another company's site, ask your DSO before you accept.

What about the IT vendor and consultancy layer in Bentonville?

Bentonville has a cluster of IT services firms. Federal Soft Systems, with 111 petitions, is the largest in our hub, and several smaller Bentonville-based IT firms also appear in its list. Some are solid employers; the model still carries risks a direct hire does not, such as client-site placement, gaps between projects and less say over where you work.

There is also a proposal in the White House pipeline. DHS's "Reforming the H-1B Nonimmigrant Visa Classification Program" (RIN 1615-AD00) has been under OIRA review since 2026-08-24. Its agenda abstract lists "revising eligibility for cap exemptions, providing greater scrutiny for employers that have violated program requirements, and increasing oversight over third party placements." No text is public, and it changes nothing today.

Decision checklist before you accept a vendor, consultancy or small-office offer in Northwest Arkansas, as of 2026-11.

DOL's H-1B rules limit which petition costs an employer can pass to you; a demand for a deposit or "processing fee" is a reason to stop and ask an attorney.

Walmart, J.B. Hunt and Tyson: what does each signal mean?

Read each hub page's new-hire versus renewal split before you treat any of them as a sponsor for your role.

Walmart

Walmart is cap-subject, so a new hire from OPT needs a lottery selection, and the wage level of your specific offer sets how many entries your registration gets. A timely cap-subject change-of-status petition triggers cap-gap, which extends F-1 status and OPT work authorization to April 1 of the fiscal year requested, or to the petition's start date if that comes first.

J.B. Hunt

J.B. Hunt, the Lowell trucking and logistics company, logged 269 petitions in the extract, and the hub labels it "mostly renewals": most of its petitions continue, extend or transfer existing H-1B employment rather than start new employment. That makes it a more realistic target if you already hold H-1B status than straight from OPT. Ask whether your team has sponsored a new hire recently.

Tyson Foods

Tyson Foods is headquartered in Springdale and sits in the hub's top ten, below our company-page threshold. Roles that require a specific degree, such as food science, engineering and analytics, fit the specialty-occupation test more naturally than general operations roles (our reading). Check Tyson's LCAs by worksite to see which titles it actually files before you assume a posting sponsors.

Does the University of Arkansas sponsor H-1B?

Yes. The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville logged 118 petitions across FY2024-FY2026 (FY2026 partial), and the hub labels it "actively hiring," meaning a large share of those petitions were for new hires rather than renewals. Universities are usually cap-exempt, so there is no lottery and the petition can be filed at any time of year.

The catch is timing. Cap-exempt petitions get no cap-gap protection, so if your OPT EAD ends before the petition is approved, you cannot keep working on it. The employer can request premium processing (15 business days for most I-129 petitions; the I-907 fee is $2,965 since 2026-03-01), so ask whether the department uses it. Our explainer on whether cap-gap applies to cap-exempt H-1B jobs walks through the dates.

Two more points. First, a cap-exempt H-1B is not a route into Walmart without the lottery: under DHS's cap-exemption and concurrent-employment rules, if you leave cap-exempt employment for a cap-subject employer, you become cap-subject unless you were already counted against the cap in your six-year period. Second, state politics can pause university hiring: Florida (from 2026-03-02 until at least 2027-01-05) and Texas have frozen new H-1B hires or petitions at their public universities. Neither order covers Arkansas, but ask the hiring department whether it is filing new petitions.

How does the wage-weighted lottery work in a smaller metro?

Since 2026-02-27, the weighted selection rule enters a Level IV registration four times and a Level I registration once. The level is the highest DOL wage level your offered salary meets or exceeds for your occupation in the area where you will work (our summary of the rule).

Every metro has its own table, so the same salary can map to different levels in different places; a Bentonville offer is measured against Northwest Arkansas wages for your occupation, not national ones. Look up your occupation and the area in the OFLC Wage Search, compare it with the offer, and ask which occupation code the employer plans to use. When USCIS announces FY2028 registration, the dates are expected on its H-1B electronic registration page, which as of 2026-11-01 still shows FY2027.

Is Northwest Arkansas affordable on an entry-level salary?

It can be, but only your own numbers decide it; we give no salary figure because none we verified is current for your role.

Work it out in order: compare the offer with the local prevailing wage table for your occupation; price rent near the worksite, since Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale and Fayetteville are separate towns linked mostly by highway; budget for a car and insurance; and include Arkansas state income tax. A tax professional who handles nonresident returns can explain how your tax residency changes the math. Our cost of living versus H-1B salary comparison shows how to set two metros side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Does Walmart sponsor H-1B in Bentonville?

Yes. In the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub extract behind our Arkansas hub, Wal-Mart Associates Inc in Bentonville logged 5,939 H-1B petitions across FY2024-FY2026 (FY2026 partial), plus 485 under a second spelling, about 82% of the hub's total by our arithmetic. That shows Walmart can sponsor, not that a given opening will, so confirm sponsorship for the specific role.

Which other Arkansas companies sponsor H-1B?

In the same extract, the next largest are J.B. Hunt Transport in Lowell (269 petitions), the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock (162), Gainwell Technologies in Conway (155), the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville (118) and Federal Soft Systems in Bentonville (111); Tyson Foods of Springdale is also in the top ten. Counts cover FY2024 through a partial FY2026. Many Walmart suppliers file from out-of-state headquarters, so their local jobs are not counted in Arkansas.

Are Walmart supplier jobs in Bentonville open to OPT students?

They can be, if the job is directly related to your degree. Post-completion OPT needs no E-Verify employer; STEM OPT needs one, plus a Form I-983 training plan the employer signs and a bona fide employer-employee relationship. In a small local office of an out-of-state company, confirm who employs and supervises you, and ask your DSO how to report the employer.

Is Northwest Arkansas affordable on an entry-level salary?

Only your own numbers can answer that. Compare the offer with the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation in the Northwest Arkansas area using the OFLC Wage Search, then price rent near the worksite, a car for travel between spread-out towns, and Arkansas state income tax. For H-1B purposes, the official wage tables, not salary surveys, are the benchmark.

Does the University of Arkansas sponsor H-1B?

Yes. The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville logged 118 H-1B petitions across FY2024-FY2026 (FY2026 partial) in our extract. Universities are usually cap-exempt, so there is no lottery but also no cap-gap, and the filing date has to leave room before your OPT EAD ends. A DHS proposal under White House review (RIN 1615-AD00) lists revising cap-exemption eligibility in its agenda abstract; no text is public and current rules apply.
