Does Home Depot Sponsor H-1B Visas? Atlanta Tech, Data and Supply-Chain Roles for OPT Grads
Home Depot does sponsor H-1B workers, mainly through one legal entity and mostly for corporate tech, data and supply-chain roles, so here is how an OPT grad finds the jobs that actually come with a petition.

Part of our guide to companies that sponsor H-1B visas.
Yes, Home Depot sponsors H-1B visas, mainly through one legal entity: Home Depot Management Company LLC in Atlanta. In FY2024 that entity had 307 first decisions in USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub figures, 99.7% of them approvals. Store jobs generally do not come with sponsorship, so on OPT or STEM OPT your realistic route is a corporate software, data or supply-chain analytics role.
Status as of 2026-11-01: wage-weighted H-1B selection is in effect (since 2026-02-27); FY2028 registration is not announced (30 days' notice required); the STEM OPT 180-day automatic extension is in effect, unchanged by the 2026-10-14 EAD rule; the $100,000 payment is blocked in practice by courts, though Proclamation 11069 stands on paper.
Does Home Depot sponsor H-1B visas? The short answer
Home Depot does sponsor H-1B workers. Its petitions are filed mainly by Home Depot Management Company LLC in Atlanta, which in FY2024 had 52 initial (new-employment) approvals, 0 initial denials, 254 continuing approvals and 1 continuing denial. The evidence points to corporate technology, data and analytics roles, not store jobs.
The H-1B Employer Data Hub "has data on the first decisions USCIS makes on petitions for initial and continuing employment"; its methodology page adds that "subsequent decisions, such as on an appeal or revocation, are excluded." Our Home Depot Management Company employer page shows the record by year.
Home Depot's H-1B record in numbers (FY2024, as of 2026-11)
| Metric (FY2024 first decisions) | Home Depot Management Company LLC |
|---|---|
| Initial approvals (new employment) | 52 |
| Initial denials | 0 |
| Continuing approvals | 254 |
| Continuing denials | 1 |
| Total first decisions | 307 |
| Approval rate | 99.7% |
| Share of decisions that were new employment | About 17% (our arithmetic: 52 of 307) |
Source: the USCIS Hub extract our company pages use. FY2024 is the latest full year we quote per employer; the Hub itself now runs through "fiscal year 2026 (quarter 4)", but never read a partial year as a trend.
What these numbers mean for you
Initial approvals count I-129s marked "New employment": per USCIS's glossary, a worker abroad with no classification, or one starting work "in a different nonimmigrant classification" with a new or the same employer. That covers an F-1 graduate moving from OPT into H-1B. Continuing approvals cover the other boxes: continuations, amendments, concurrent employment and change of employer (a new employer in the same classification).
So about five in six FY2024 decisions involved people already in H-1B status (our arithmetic: 255 of 307), and 52 new-employment approvals is about one a week: real, but narrow. The 99.7% rate reflects what Home Depot chose to file, not how likely it is to file for you.
What is Home Depot Management Company LLC?
It is the main Home Depot legal entity on H-1B petitions, and the name to search in Labor Condition Application (LCA) files. Our USCIS extract lists it under Retail Trade with an Atlanta, Georgia address, the only Home Depot-named employer there with enough decisions for its own page. That address is the petitioner's mailing address, which USCIS says is "not necessarily the beneficiary(ies) work location."
According to some third-party sponsor-data sites, other Home Depot-named entities, such as Home Depot U.S.A., Inc. and Home Depot Product Authority, LLC, show few or no LCA filings, and their records conflict. Walmart has the same entity-name trap, as our Walmart H-1B sponsorship guide shows, and our legal-entity guide explains how to trace it for any employer. Your offer letter, I-129 and LCA name the employer that governs your case, and they should match.
Which Home Depot jobs sponsor: store vs corporate
Corporate roles can sponsor. Store roles generally do not. H-1B requires a "specialty occupation", one that needs "a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related specific specialty, or its equivalent" for entry. The same definition says a position does not qualify if "a general degree, without further specialization, is sufficient" (8 CFR 214.2(h)(4)(ii)). Hourly store jobs and most store-management roles do not normally meet that standard.
Degree-specific work sits at the Atlanta headquarters (the company calls it the Store Support Center) and in technology postings on Home Depot's careers site. According to third-party LCA aggregators, software-engineering titles are among the entity's most frequent filings; verify that in DOL's own files. Some postings are remote or outside Georgia, and an LCA must cover the actual worksite, so ask where the role is based.
| Role family | SOC codes you may see on an LCA | What to check before you apply |
|---|---|---|
| Software engineering | 15-1252 Software Developers | Which entity hires, and does the team sponsor? |
| Data engineering, data science, machine learning | 15-2051 Data Scientists; 15-1252 | Does it require a specific degree that matches yours? |
| Supply-chain analytics | 13-1081 Logisticians; 15-2031 Operations Research Analysts | Are the duties specialized enough, and is your degree STEM-designated? |
| Cybersecurity, product, UX | 15-1212 Information Security Analysts; others | Does the posting require a degree in a specific field? |
| Store and distribution-center operations | Not typical H-1B occupations | Generally no sponsorship; on OPT, ask your DSO whether it relates to your degree |

Supply-chain analytics: the underrated STEM OPT path
Most applicants aim at software roles; fewer target the analytics behind Home Depot's distribution network: inventory planning, replenishment, transportation and network design. If your degree's CIP code (printed on your I-20) is on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List, a qualifying analyst job can support the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Check the code, not the program's name: a "supply chain" or "analytics" title does not guarantee a STEM code.
Two cautions. A job title does not make a role a specialty occupation; the duties and degree requirement must line up, and "analyst" jobs vary widely. The job must also relate directly to your STEM degree, documented on Form I-983. Our supply-chain analyst guide for big retailers covers how to position that work.
Does Home Depot hire STEM OPT students?
It can, for qualifying roles. The USCIS STEM OPT page (updated 2026-01-30) requires the employer to "be enrolled in E-Verify", sign a Form I-983 training plan and keep "a bona fide employer-employee relationship with the student." Enrollment can differ by entity, so ask HR about the hiring entity; our E-Verify lookup guide shows how to check.
You can file the STEM OPT I-765 up to 90 days before your OPT EAD expires. If you file on time and the EAD expires while the case is pending, USCIS says it "will automatically extend your employment authorization for 180 days." That is in effect as of 2026-11-01; the EAD final rule of 2026-10-14 amends only 8 CFR 274a.13 and never mentions STEM OPT. A STEM I-765 filed after your OPT EAD expires gets no 180 days.
Unemployment limits are unchanged: 90 days on post-completion OPT and 150 days in total across OPT and STEM OPT, according to the SEVIS Help Hub. E-Verify is funded through 2026-12-11 and went offline in the 2025 shutdown, so for a later start date ask HR about onboarding unless Congress passes funding by then (our E-Verify shutdown explainer).
How the wage-weighted lottery changes the Home Depot math
Since 2026-02-27, cap-subject H-1B selection has been weighted by wage level under the weighted selection final rule. A Level IV registration gets four entries and a Level I registration gets one. The level compares your offered wage with the prevailing wage for that occupation in the worksite's area, so one salary can land at different levels in different cities. Our wage-level lottery explainer walks through each level.
The USCIS registration page still shows the FY2027 season (March 4-19, $215 per registration). USCIS must announce FY2028 at least 30 calendar days ahead (8 CFR 214.2(h)(8)(iii)(A)(3)), so March 2027 is an expectation, not a date.
Status board for a Home Depot H-1B plan (as of 2026-11-01)
| Item | Status | What it means for a Home Depot candidate |
|---|---|---|
| FY2028 registration | Not announced (30 days' notice required) | Watch the USCIS page; don't trust forum dates |
| $100,000 H-1B payment (Proclamation 11069) | In effect on paper to 2027-09-21; collection blocked by courts | Never covered a change of status USCIS grants inside the US |
| $103,265 fee for certain cap-subject petitions (RIN 1615-AD20) | Proposed; comments closed 2026-09-24; no final rule | Nothing to pay unless a final rule is published |
| Ending the worker 60-day grace period (RIN 1615-AD22) | Proposed; comments close 2026-11-10 | Current 60 days applies; check for an outcome after 11-10 |
| Removing deference on extensions (RIN 1615-AD26) | Proposed; comments close 2026-11-13 | Current deference applies; check for an outcome after 11-13 |
The USCIS I-129 page (updated 2026-10-30) says that if the court order on the $100,000 payment "is later lifted, DHS still plans to collect the payment." Even then, it would reach a consular-notification petition or a denied change of status, not a change of status, amendment or extension USCIS grants inside the US.
Worked timeline: a December 2026 graduate targeting Home Depot
Say you finish a STEM-designated MS in business analytics on Friday, 2026-12-18, and want a supply-chain analytics role at Home Depot in Atlanta. Future dates below are illustrative assumptions, not predictions.
- Request the OPT recommendation from your DSO, then file Form I-765 within 30 days of it. USCIS accepts post-completion OPT filings from 90 days before program end to 60 days after (here, by 2027-02-16). The fee is $520 on paper or $470 online (G-1055, edition 10/26/26). The USCIS processing-times tool showed 80% of F-1 (c)(3) cases done within 5 months on 2026-11-01.
- Plan around the 14-month limit. Post-completion OPT must be finished "within a 14-month period following the completion of study" (8 CFR 214.2(f)(10)(ii)(A)(3)), about 2028-02-18 here (our arithmetic), so a late approval shortens your 12 months. Your EAD's end date governs.
- Search careers.homedepot.com for corporate analytics postings, ask the recruiter whether the role sponsors and which entity hires, and check its LCAs in DOL's OFLC disclosure data (latest: FY2026 Q3).
- Watch for the FY2028 registration announcement and confirm that Home Depot will register you. If selected, the employer files Form I-129 with a certified LCA requesting a change of status, earliest start 2027-10-01. Your OPT runs past that date, so cap-gap is not needed here; it matters when OPT ends first.
- File the STEM OPT I-765 with a signed Form I-983 if you are not selected, within the 90 days before your OPT EAD expires. STEM OPT adds up to 24 months, to about February 2030 here (our arithmetic).
- Repeat registration in the next two seasons if needed: about three lottery attempts in total (our arithmetic).
Confirm every F-1 date with your DSO. Under PA-2026-15, day-counted paper deadlines that end on a weekend or holiday roll to the next business day; online filings never roll.
Does Home Depot accept H-1B transfers?
Yes. The 254 FY2024 continuing approvals include change-of-employer petitions, though the Hub does not say how many were transfers. A worker already counted against the cap generally does not re-enter the lottery. Under H-1B portability, an eligible worker can start with the new employer once it files a nonfrivolous petition before the worker's authorized stay expires, or on the requested start date if later (8 CFR 214.2(h)(2)(i)(H)). Have an immigration attorney confirm your eligibility before you resign.
Two proposals matter if you are between jobs; neither is final, so today's rules apply. The grace-period proposal would remove the window of up to 60 days after a job ends, leaving only the 10 days after a petition's validity period, which run from the petition's end date, not from a layoff. The deference proposal would delete 8 CFR 214.1(c)(5) for I-129 extensions.
Does Home Depot sponsor green cards?
The H-1B data cannot answer that. An employment green card usually starts with a DOL PERM labor certification, so look up the entity in the PERM disclosure files on the DOL OFLC performance page (latest public file FY2026 Q3, through 2026-06-30). Our PERM lookup method shows how to read those files against LCA volume.
Home Depot is not among the eight employers in the PERM suspension DOL announced on 2026-10-08: Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL and Capgemini, as reported by Manifest Law. As of 2026-11-01 that action has no written notice or end date, and it "does not suspend any employer from the H-1B program," according to Mayer Brown. Home Depot is also not on the DOL H-1B debarment list effective as of October 1, 2026.
On timing, DOL's FLAG page showed PERM analyst review at January 2026 priority dates, averaging 303 days, as of 2026-10-21. DOL's PERM labor-market-test NPRM (RIN 1205-AC29) cleared White House review on 2026-10-23 but is unpublished, so current 20 CFR 656.17 recruitment rules apply. In the November 2026 Visa Bulletin's Final Action Date chart, EB-2 India stayed at 2013-11-01 and EB-2 rest-of-world moved to 2025-04-01 (USCIS requires the Dates for Filing chart for November I-485s). Ask HR when PERM starts for your role, and take your own green-card strategy to a licensed immigration attorney.
Common mistakes
- Searching only "Home Depot." Search Home Depot Management Company LLC; brand-name searches return thin or conflicting records.
- Applying to store jobs for sponsorship. Store and most store-management roles generally do not meet the specialty-occupation standard.
- Reading 99.7% as your odds. It measures USCIS decisions on petitions Home Depot chose to file, not your chance of sponsorship.
- Counting continuing approvals as openings. The 254 are mostly existing H-1B staff. The 52 new-employment approvals are the new-hire signal.
- Assuming any analyst job works for STEM OPT. The degree's CIP code must be STEM-designated, the job must relate directly to it, and the employer needs E-Verify and a signed I-983.
Frequently asked questions
Does Home Depot sponsor H-1B for software engineers?
The evidence points to yes. Home Depot Management Company LLC, its main H-1B filer, had 52 initial and 254 continuing approvals in FY2024 (USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub).
