Does ZS Associates Sponsor H-1B Visas? Consulting and Analytics Roles for STEM OPT Graduates
ZS is a repeat H-1B sponsor and says it sponsors full-time hires, but your lottery odds and STEM OPT eligibility turn on your offer and your degree, not the firm.

Part of our guide to companies that sponsor H-1B visas.
Yes, ZS Associates sponsors H-1B visas. In the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub extract behind our ZS Associates employer page, ZS Associates Inc had 82 initial approvals and 0 initial denials in FY2024, and only 2 denials among 199 first decisions. ZS's own careers FAQ says it "offers visa sponsorship for full-time employees and support for interns with a student visa." So the answer to "does ZS sponsor H1B?" is yes. What ZS cannot control is the H-1B lottery, or whether your degree qualifies you for STEM OPT.
Status as of 2026-11-01: wage-weighted H-1B selection is in effect (since 2026-02-27); FY2028 registration is not announced (USCIS must give at least 30 days' notice); the STEM OPT 180-day automatic extension is in effect for timely filers, unchanged by the 2026-10-14 EAD final rule. F1Jobs sells a job-search service to international candidates; every number below is public and checkable.
Does ZS sponsor H1B? The FY2024 numbers
ZS Associates is a repeat H-1B sponsor. In FY2024, USCIS approved 82 initial and 115 continuing ZS petitions and denied only 2, both continuing: a 99.0% approval rate on first decisions. Initial approvals were about 41% of decisions, which in our reading means ZS was bringing in new H-1B hires, such as graduates moving from OPT, not only renewing existing staff.
| Metric (ZS Associates Inc, FY2024, USCIS first decisions) | Count | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Initial approvals | 82 | New H-1B employment, where OPT hires usually show up |
| Initial denials | 0 | No first-time petitions denied |
| Continuing approvals | 115 | Workers already in H-1B, broadly extensions and changes |
| Continuing denials | 2 | Rare problems on renewals |
| Total first decisions | 199 | ZS filings USCIS decided |
| Approval rate | 99.0% | 197 approvals out of 199 decisions (our arithmetic) |
| Initial share | 41% | 82 of 199 decisions (our arithmetic) |
USCIS's Data Hub documentation adds two caveats: the figures reflect "USCIS' first decision," and the employer city "is not necessarily the beneficiary(ies) work location." Our extract lists ZS in Evanston, Illinois, which does not tell you where you would sit. We quote FY2024 here; our employer page also shows later fiscal years, and the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub itself now runs through FY2026 Q4, so read those rows too.
What the 41% initial share tells you
Some large sponsors file mostly renewals. A 41% initial share points to campus intake: ZS was adding new H-1B workers in FY2024, which is what you need if you are on F-1 now. That is our reading, not a ZS statement. One employer's mix can swing sharply from year to year, so compare the later rows before reading a trend into it; it also says nothing about how many offers go to visa holders in a season.
The 99.0% is not your odds. The approval rate covers petitions USCIS decided, and a cap-subject petition is filed only after lottery selection. For FY2026, USCIS's registration page counted 343,981 eligible registrations and 120,141 selections. Under the wage-weighted rule, your weight depends on your offer's wage level, not on ZS's record.
What changes the odds at ZS right now (as of 2026-11)
ZS is a private, for-profit firm, so it is cap-subject: unless you have already been counted against the H-1B cap, you need to be selected in the annual lottery.
| Rule or action | Status (as of 2026-11-01) | What it means for a ZS candidate |
|---|---|---|
| Wage-weighted H-1B selection (final rule) | In effect since 2026-02-27 | Level IV wages get four entries' weight down to one at Level I; your offer's level matters |
| FY2028 H-1B registration | Not announced; 30 days' notice required | March 2027 is an expectation only. The FY2027 window ran March 4-19, 2026 |
| STEM OPT 180-day automatic extension | In effect, unchanged by the 2026-10-14 EAD rule | A timely filed STEM I-765 keeps you working at ZS while it is pending |
| $100,000 payment under Proclamation 11069 | Proclamation in effect on paper to 2027-09-21; fee blocked | Not collected. A change of status USCIS granted inside the US was never covered |
| $103,265 cap-subject fee (NPRM) | Proposed; comments closed 2026-09-24; no final rule | Nothing to pay today |
| Ending the worker 60-day grace period | Proposed; comments close 2026-11-10 | Today's 60-day H-1B grace period still applies (check the Federal Register for the outcome after 2026-11-10) |
The USCIS I-129 page says a court "vacated agency guidance implementing the $100,000 payment requirement" and that DHS still plans to collect it if that order is lifted: not collected now, not gone for good. Our guide to data analyst wage levels and the H-1B lottery shows how your offer's level changes your weight.
Does ZS hire international students for associate roles?
Yes. ZS recruits from campuses for analytics, technology and consulting associate roles, and its interview process page answers the visa question directly: "ZS offers visa sponsorship for full-time employees and support for interns with a student visa." The same answer adds that "sponsorship type and reimbursement may vary based on the location, role and status, but our aim is to support visa sponsorship when possible."
"Our aim" is not a promise, so confirm sponsorship per requisition:
- Titles vary. Titles seen in recent listings include Decision Analytics Associate and Business Technology Solutions Associate; check the live posting on zs.com, not an aggregator copy.
- Location matters. A posting in a ZS office outside the US is not a US H-1B role; a later move to the US is a separate path (L-1 or H-1B) with its own rules.
- Internships run on CPT. A ZS summer internship is usually authorized by your school as Curricular Practical Training under 8 CFR 214.2(f)(10)(i). SEVP's CPT broadcasts (BCM 2608-01 and 2608-02) are in effect as guidance and challenged in AAU v. DHS, with a preliminary-injunction hearing on 2026-11-06 at 3:00 p.m. (check the docket for the outcome). Some schools have paused CPT approvals, so ask your DSO before you accept.
ZS decision analytics associate visa questions
For an analytics associate, two entries on the Labor Condition Application matter most: the occupation (SOC) code that fits your duties, and the wage level your salary reaches for that code in your work area. Together they set your lottery weight. DOL's public LCA disclosure files on the OFLC performance data page, latest through FY2026 Q3, show how ZS has filed similar titles. We quote no ZS salaries; look the levels up there rather than trusting aggregators.
ZS analytics roles vs strategy consulting: which works better on a visa?
For most F-1 students the real difference is STEM OPT. An analytics role tied to a STEM-designated degree can add 24 months of work authorization, and with it more lottery attempts. A strategy role can qualify too if your degree is STEM-designated and the duties relate directly to it.
| Factor | ZS analytics and associate roles | Generalist strategy roles (MBB-style) |
|---|---|---|
| Typical work | Analytics, technology and commercial consulting; healthcare and life sciences lead the industries on ZS's about page | Strategy and operations across many industries |
| STEM OPT fit | Often easier to tie to a STEM analytics, statistics, CS or engineering degree, if its CIP code is on the list | Depends on the degree (some MBAs and master's are STEM-designated) and on whether generalist duties relate to it |
| H-1B lottery | Cap-subject; weighted by your offer's wage level for the SOC code and area | Same |
| Questions to ask | Is this requisition sponsored? Is ZS enrolled in E-Verify? When does PERM start? | Same, plus how case-team staffing affects your worksite |
If you are deciding between firm types, our overview of consulting firms that sponsor H-1B lists the wider field, and our guide to MBB strategy consulting H-1B sponsorship covers McKinsey, Bain and BCG specifically.
Is a ZS role STEM OPT eligible?
It depends on you, not on ZS. Your degree's six-digit CIP code, printed on your I-20, must be on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List, and the ZS role must relate directly to that degree. ZS then has to meet the employer rules, including E-Verify enrollment and signing Form I-983.
USCIS's STEM OPT page requires that you "have been granted OPT and currently be in a valid period of post-completion OPT." You can file "up to 90 days before your current OPT employment authorization expires," and if a timely application is pending when OPT ends, USCIS will "automatically extend your employment authorization for 180 days." A STEM I-765 filed after your OPT EAD expires gets no 180 days.
Check your CIP code against the list on ICE's SEVP schools page. If you are in a business analytics program, our guide to MS Business Analytics jobs on STEM OPT covers how those degrees are usually coded. Two ZS-specific points:
- Client work must match your I-983. Consultants often work with client teams, but your training plan has to describe the real arrangement, and ZS has to keep training and supervising you. DHS can make site visits to STEM OPT employers.
- The unemployment clock keeps running. SEVP's unemployment counter guidance counts each day "without employer information" from your OPT start date: 90 days on OPT, 150 in aggregate across OPT and STEM OPT. Report your employer on time (the SEVP Portal on OPT, or through your DSO).
A worked timeline for a December 2026 graduate joining ZS
A hypothetical December 2026 MS Business Analytics graduate with a full-time ZS offer. The dates are illustrative; your EAD, I-20 and I-94 govern.
| When | Step | Status and note (as of 2026-11) |
|---|---|---|
| From 90 days before to 60 days after your December 2026 program end | DSO recommends post-completion OPT in SEVIS; you file Form I-765 | File within 30 days of the recommendation (USCIS OPT page). 80% of F-1 (c)(3) cases finished within 5 months (USCIS processing times, read 2026-11-01) |
| 2027, once the EAD is approved | You start at ZS on or after the EAD start date | The 90-day unemployment clock runs from the OPT start date, so days before your ZS start count |
| March 2027 (expected) | ZS registers you for the FY2028 lottery | Not announced; USCIS must give 30 days' notice. Wage-weighted selection applies |
| If selected | ZS files a cap-subject change-of-status petition; earliest H-1B start 2027-10-01 | If your OPT would end first, cap-gap extends status and work to the start date or 2028-04-01, whichever is earlier |
| If not selected, March 2028 (expected) | Second attempt (FY2029), while still on OPT | Each window must be announced by USCIS |
| Before your OPT EAD expires (2028 here) | You file a STEM OPT I-765, up to 90 days before expiry | 180-day automatic extension if timely filed; 150-day aggregate unemployment limit |
| March 2029 (expected) | Third attempt (FY2030), on STEM OPT | Same rules, unless they change |
Cap-gap ends automatically if the petition is denied, withdrawn, revoked or rejected (USCIS cap-gap page). The FY2027 cap was reached on 2026-07-17 with no second selection, so do not count on one.
Does ZS sponsor green cards?
ZS's careers FAQ says nothing about green cards. To check its record, search DOL's PERM disclosure files, whose latest public release is FY2026 Q3. As of 2026-11-01, ZS is not among the eight employers named in DOL's October 2026 PERM suspension (Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL and Capgemini), and it is not on DOL's H-1B debarment list, which names six willful violators as of 2026-10-01.
If ZS files for you, the employment-based route has five stages, most of them handled by ZS and its immigration counsel:
- Request a prevailing wage determination from DOL on Form ETA-9141 through the FLAG portal.
- Run the PERM recruitment test and file Form ETA-9089 with DOL. As of 2026-10-21, FLAG processing times showed analyst review at January 2026 priority dates, averaging 303 days for determinations issued in August 2026; check the page for today's figure.
- File Form I-140 with USCIS once the labor certification is approved, usually in EB-2 or EB-3.
- Wait for your priority date in the Visa Bulletin on travel.state.gov. In the November 2026 bulletin, Final Action Dates are EB-2 India 2013-11-01, EB-3 India 2014-01-22 and EB-2 rest of world 2025-04-01, and USCIS requires the Dates for Filing chart for November I-485s (USCIS filing charts). The December bulletin was not out as of 2026-11-01, so any December date is a forecast.
- File Form I-485 with USCIS when your date is current under the chart USCIS designates, or go through consular processing, which always uses Final Action Dates.
Two items to watch: DOL's PERM labor-market-test NPRM (RIN 1205-AC29) cleared White House review on 2026-10-23 but is not published, so current 20 CFR 656.17 recruitment rules apply, and DOL's prevailing-wage rule is still proposed. Our guide to checking a company's green card record in PERM data shows how to search the files; your own timing is a question for a licensed immigration attorney.
How hard is the ZS case interview?
ZS publishes no pass rate, so any difficulty rating you read is opinion. It does publish the format, which for some roles reaches past the case into quantitative and technical skills.
ZS's interview page lists behavioral interviews, case interviews, subject-matter interviews and, for certain roles, an online assessment that "covers logical, quantitative and qualitative reasoning, along with big data concepts such as cloud platforms, data management, analytics and coding languages." For the case, ZS says: "You'll tackle a real business challenge, demonstrating how you structure problems, develop solutions, apply feedback and think creatively." It says to expect two to four rounds, and to hear back within two to four weeks in the busy campus season.
Given ZS's healthcare and life sciences work, practise commercial cases (sizing a market, judging a launch, deploying a sales team) and do the math out loud; our case interview prep guide for international candidates covers frameworks, mental math and communication when English is your second language. If asked about sponsorship, give your OPT dates and whether your degree is STEM-designated, plainly and accurately.
How to check ZS sponsorship for your specific role
- Read the work-authorization line on the posting at zs.com and save a copy.
- Ask your ZS recruiter (or [email protected], which ZS lists for questions) whether this requisition is open to candidates who will need H-1B sponsorship.
- Search "ZS Associates" in the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub and match the legal entity on your offer letter.
- Look up comparable ZS job titles, occupation codes and wage levels in DOL's LCA disclosure files on the OFLC performance page.
- Confirm ZS's E-Verify enrollment and its willingness to sign Form I-983 before you count on STEM OPT.
- Take OPT, STEM OPT and CPT questions to your DSO, and H-1B or green card strategy questions to a licensed immigration attorney.
Common mistakes
- Reading the 99.0% approval rate as your lottery odds. Approvals come after selection; the lottery comes first.
- Assuming every ZS posting is sponsored. ZS says sponsorship varies by location, role and status. Confirm per requisition.
- Thinking an analytics title makes you STEM OPT eligible. Eligibility depends on your degree's CIP code and how the duties relate to it.
- Letting client work drift away from your I-983. The plan must describe where and how you actually work.
- Filing STEM OPT after your OPT EAD expires. The 180-day automatic extension covers only timely filed applications.
Frequently asked questions
Does ZS Associates sponsor H-1B?
Yes. In the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub, ZS Associates Inc had 82 initial approvals, 0 initial denials, 115 continuing approvals and 2 continuing denials in FY2024, and its careers FAQ says it offers visa sponsorship for full-time employees. Sponsorship is still decided per role and location, and a new hire who has never been counted against the cap must be selected in the H-1B lottery first.
Does ZS hire international students for associate roles?
Yes. ZS recruits from campuses and says it offers support for interns with a student visa as well as sponsorship for full-time employees, and 82 of its 199 FY2024 H-1B first decisions were initial approvals, the column where new graduates usually appear. Confirm sponsorship for your specific requisition with your recruiter, because ZS says the type of support varies by location, role and status.
Does ZS sponsor green cards?
ZS's careers FAQ says nothing about green cards, so the way to check its record is DOL's PERM disclosure data, whose latest public file is FY2026 Q3. As of 2026-11-01 ZS is not one of the eight employers named in DOL's October 2026 PERM suspension. When ZS would start PERM for your role is internal policy, so ask before you sign.
Is a ZS role STEM OPT eligible?
Eligibility attaches to you and your degree, not to the firm. Your degree's CIP code must be on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List, the ZS role must relate directly to that degree, and ZS must meet the employer rules, including E-Verify enrollment and a signed Form I-983. As of 2026-11-01 the 180-day automatic extension still applies to a timely filed STEM OPT application.
How hard is the ZS case interview?
ZS publishes no pass rate, so any difficulty rating is opinion. Its interview page describes behavioral interviews, case interviews built on a real business challenge, subject-matter interviews and, for certain roles, an online assessment covering reasoning, big data concepts and coding, typically across two to four rounds. Prepare for structured cases and, for analytics roles, quantitative and technical questions, and practise case math out loud.

How we checked this: we took ZS Associates Inc's FY2024 figures from the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub extract behind our employer page, read ZS's careers, interview and about pages, and checked every rule against USCIS, DOL, ICE, Study in the States and Federal Register pages on 2026-11-01.
This is general information, not legal or tax advice; your own I-20, EAD, I-94 and USCIS notices govern, and your DSO or a licensed immigration attorney should confirm anything about your specific case.
