Marketing Analyst Jobs With H-1B Sponsorship: Marketing Analytics Degrees, STEM OPT and Titles That Hold Up

A marketing analytics degree is not automatically STEM, and a marketing analyst title is not automatically a specialty occupation. Here is how to check both before you accept.

As of November 2026, marketing analyst H-1B sponsorship is realistic mainly when the job is analytics-heavy. Marketing analyst, marketing analytics manager, performance analyst and marketing data scientist roles hold up best when the posting requires a quantitative degree and the duties actually use it. A marketing analytics master's earns the 24-month STEM OPT extension (36 months of OPT in total) only if the CIP code on your Form I-20 is on the DHS STEM list. The marketing codes (the 52.14 series) are not on it; business analytics (30.7102) and business statistics (52.1302) are.

This guide covers analytics roles; for brand, content and campaign roles, see our digital marketing H-1B sponsorship guide.

Marketing analyst H-1B sponsorship: the short answer

Employers can sponsor a marketing analyst for H-1B when the role is a specialty occupation, meaning its duties require a bachelor's or higher degree in a specific, directly related field. Analytics-heavy marketing jobs that need statistics, econometrics or data science meet that test more readily than campaign or content roles, and STEM OPT eligibility depends separately on your degree's CIP code.

Is a master's in marketing analytics STEM?

Only if your program's CIP code is on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. The degree title does not decide it: two programs both called "MS in Marketing Analytics" can carry different codes, and only one may qualify.

The DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List, last updated July 22, 2024, counts Business, Management, Marketing and Related Support Services (series 52) among its 18 "related" series, but lists only four series-52 codes: 52.1301, 52.1302, 52.1304 and 52.1399. None is a marketing code.

Marketing-adjacent CIP codes checked against the DHS list (as of 2026-11-01)

CIP codeTitle in the federal CIP taxonomyOn the July 22, 2024 DHS list?

30.7101Data Analytics, GeneralYes
52.1302Business StatisticsYes
45.0603Econometrics and Quantitative EconomicsYes
09.0702Digital Communication and Media/MultimediaYes

Common misconception: "Marketing Analytics is CIP 52.1402, so it counts as STEM." Correction: in the NCES CIP taxonomy, 52.1402 is Marketing Research, and no 52.14 code is on the DHS list. A Marketing Analytics program qualifies only if your school codes it under a listed code such as 30.7102.

Two edge cases:

Without a listed code you still get post-completion OPT, just no extension. Confirm the code with your DSO, not the brochure; our guide to jobs after an MS in Business Analytics compares MSBA codes.

Which marketing titles hold up best for H-1B?

No title wins on its own, because USCIS reads the duties and the degree requirement. Titles still matter because each maps to a federal occupation (SOC) code, which shapes the degree argument and the prevailing wage on the Labor Condition Application (LCA).

Marketing titles by SOC code (codes from the BLS 2018 SOC; education from Occupational Outlook Handbook pages modified 2026-08-27; degree link is our reading)

Marketing titleSOC code an attorney might considerBLS education fieldsDegree linkStronger when the role...Weaker when the role...

The gap is the point. The Occupational Outlook Handbook says market research analysts typically need "a bachelor's degree in market research or a related business, communications, or social science field"; data scientists need "at least a bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related field." Because the 13-1161 list is broad, the job description carries more weight; the employer's attorney picks the code that fits the real duties. See our market research analyst visa sponsorship guide for research-heavy roles and our growth analyst sponsorship guide for experimentation roles.

Is a marketing analyst a specialty occupation?

It can be, but not automatically. As amended by the H-1B modernization final rule (effective 2025-01-17), 8 CFR 214.2(h)(4)(ii) states: "A position is not a specialty occupation if attainment of a general degree, without further specialization, is sufficient to qualify for the position." A range of degree fields is allowed, "provided that each of those fields is directly related to the duties of the position," and USCIS's H-1B specialty occupations page defines directly related as "a logical connection between the required degree, or its equivalent, and the duties of the position."

The preamble matters for marketing analytics graduates: DHS dropped the proposed examples "business administration or liberal arts", explaining that USCIS will look at the actual course of study and "will not merely look to the title of the degree." A posting that names "statistics, marketing analytics, economics or data science", with forecasting and modeling duties, fits the rule far better than "bachelor's degree required." Our explainer on the 2025 specialty-occupation definition goes deeper; whether your job qualifies is for the employer's immigration attorney.

How the SOC code affects your lottery entries

Under wage-weighted selection, a registration gets entries by the highest wage level the offered salary meets for its SOC code and worksite area. Codes carry different wage tables, so the code must follow the real duties; choosing one for its lottery odds is a misrepresentation risk. DOL's OFLC Wage Search shows the levels.

The 150-day rule: why "only 60 more days on STEM OPT" is wrong

The STEM OPT unemployment limit is 150 days in total across post-completion OPT and the extension. USCIS's STEM OPT page lists "an additional 60 days", but that is arithmetic on top of the 90-day OPT cap: unused OPT days carry forward. The SEVIS Help Hub unemployment counter page (updated 2026-07-27) is explicit: "STEM OPT: 150 days, which includes any days accrued while on post-completion OPT." SEVIS counts "each day without employer information," looking back to your actual OPT start date.

Worked example (dates illustrative; your EAD and SEVIS record govern). An MS in Marketing Analytics coded 30.7102 ends Friday 2026-12-18, and the OPT EAD runs 2027-02-01 to 2028-01-31.

  1. Wait for a start date: the job begins 2027-03-18, so 2027-02-01 through 03-17 is 45 days without employer information.
  2. Change jobs: leave on 2027-09-30 and start at an E-Verify employer on 10-25, adding 24 days.
  3. Total the OPT days: 69 used, 21 left under the 90-day limit.
  4. Note the STEM OPT filing window: 2027-11-02 (90 days before the EAD ends) to 2028-01-31, within 60 days of the DSO's SEVIS recommendation.
  5. Carry the balance: 150 minus 69 leaves 81 days on STEM OPT, not 60 (our arithmetic).

Days left on STEM OPT by days used on OPT (our arithmetic, as of 2026-11-01)

Days used on post-completion OPTDays left on STEM OPT
0150
30120
6981
9060

"Only 60 more" is right only for someone who used all 90 days. The opposite misreading, a "fresh 150", is the dangerous one: someone who used 85 days and thinks the clock restarted has 65 left. Ask your DSO for your SEVIS count before a gap; see how STEM OPT unemployment days count for edge cases.

Can I work in marketing on STEM OPT?

Yes, if the job fits the STEM OPT rules. The USCIS STEM OPT page requires an employer enrolled in E-Verify, a signed Form I-983, terms "commensurate with those of similarly situated U.S. workers in duties, hours, and compensation," and a plan showing "the direct relationship between the STEM OPT opportunity and the student's qualifying STEM degree." Post-completion OPT is broader but bounded: "All OPT must be directly related to your major area of study" (USCIS OPT page).

Do companies sponsor H-1B for marketing analytics roles?

Some do, but it is decided employer by employer, and a company that sponsors engineers may never have filed for a marketing analyst. Check the employer, then the job.

GMAC's 2026 Application Trends Survey (2026-10-27) reported international applications to US business schools down 38% and US Master of Business Analytics applications down 32%. That is a change in applications, not in employer sponsorship.

Before you accept a marketing analytics offer: a checklist

  1. Read the CIP code on your Form I-20 and compare it with the DHS STEM list.
  2. Ask your DSO to confirm the code in SEVIS and whether an earlier US STEM degree could count.
  3. Search the Data Hub for the employer and the LCA files for its marketing titles.
  4. Confirm with HR that the employer is enrolled in E-Verify.
  5. Compare the job description with 8 CFR 214.2(h)(4)(ii): does it name specific degree fields and duties that need them?
  6. Ask HR which SOC code and wage level counsel expects, then check that code in the OFLC Wage Search.
  7. Draft Form I-983 with your manager so each real duty maps to STEM coursework, and send it to your DSO.
  8. Report employer changes in the SEVP Portal on post-completion OPT, or through your DSO with a new I-983 on STEM OPT.

Frequently asked questions

Is a marketing analyst a specialty occupation?

Not automatically. Since 2025-01-17, a job any general degree can fill is not a specialty occupation; the degree must be in a specific specialty directly related to the duties. A statistics, forecasting or modeling role whose posting names quantitative fields makes a stronger case than campaign reporting open to any business degree.

Is a master's in marketing analytics STEM?

Only if the CIP code on your Form I-20 is on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List (July 22, 2024 edition). No 52.14 marketing code is on it; 30.7102 Business Analytics and 52.1302 Business Statistics are. Your DSO can confirm the code in SEVIS.

Do companies sponsor H-1B for marketing analytics roles?

Some do, employer by employer. As of November 2026, the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub (through FY2026 Q4) shows whether an employer files H-1B petitions, and DOL's LCA files (through FY2026 Q3) show job titles under codes such as 13-1161 or 15-2051. Past filings are evidence, not a promise.

Which marketing titles are easiest to sponsor?

None is easy or guaranteed, because USCIS decides on duties and the required degree. Marketing data scientist and modeling-heavy analyst roles usually show a clearer degree link than coordinator, content or social roles. Under wage-weighted selection (in effect since 2026-02-27), a Level IV registration gets four entries and a Level I registration one.

Can I work in marketing on STEM OPT?

Yes, if the employer uses E-Verify, signs a Form I-983 tying the job to your qualifying STEM degree, and offers terms commensurate with similar US workers. As of November 2026, the unemployment limit is 150 days in total across OPT and STEM OPT. Analytics duties tie to a STEM degree far more easily than brand work.
