Princeton, NJ H-1B Jobs: BlackRock, Bristol Myers Squibb, CitiusTech, Novo Nordisk and Princeton University
Princeton's H-1B sponsors split into pharma, asset management, a cap-exempt university and a large consultancy layer, and each one puts you on a different visa timeline.

Part of our guide to H-1B jobs by state and city.
Princeton, NJ H-1B jobs come from four kinds of employer: pharma (Bristol-Myers Squibb in Princeton, Novo Nordisk next door in Plainsboro), asset management (BlackRock Financial Management), a cap-exempt university (Princeton University) and a large IT-services and consulting layer (CitiusTech, Coforge, Pioneer Consulting, LatentView and, in Plainsboro, Compunnel). In the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub extract behind our Princeton sponsor list, 58 employers with at least 25 petitions account for 6,303 petitions decided from FY2024 through part of FY2026.
F1Jobs sells a job-search service, so we have a stake when we write about consultancies. The vetting checklist below applies to any firm, including us.
Status as of 2026-11-01
- In effect: wage-weighted H-1B selection, since 2026-02-27 (Federal Register final rule); the cap-exemption rules at 8 CFR 214.2(h)(8)(iii)(F), since 2025-01-17; OPT unemployment limits of 90 days, or 150 in total once STEM OPT is added.
- Not announced: FY2028 H-1B registration. USCIS must give at least 30 days' notice under 8 CFR 214.2(h)(8)(iii)(A)(3), and its registration page still shows FY2027. March 2027 is an expectation, not a date.
- Blocked: collection of the $100,000 H-1B payment, after a court vacated the agency guidance; the USCIS I-129 page says DHS "still plans to collect" it if that order is lifted. A change of status granted inside the US, the usual F-1 route, was never covered.
- Under White House (OIRA) review, no text published: USCIS's H-1B reform rule (RIN 1615-AD00), since 2026-08-24; see the university section.
- Proposed, not in effect: OPT fees that the SEVP-certified school, not the student, would pay; comments close 2026-11-09.
Princeton, NJ H-1B jobs: the short answer
Princeton-area H-1B sponsorship splits by filing route more than by town. The pharma, finance and IT-services employers (Bristol-Myers Squibb, Novo Nordisk, BlackRock, CitiusTech, Coforge, Compunnel) file cap-subject petitions, so a first H-1B goes through the wage-weighted lottery. Princeton University files cap-exempt and skips the lottery, but its petitions get no cap-gap protection, so the filing date becomes the risk.
Scale first. The eight Princeton-listed entries in the table below account for 3,585 of the 6,303 petitions, about 57% (our arithmetic). Next door, our Plainsboro list counts 25 employers and 4,008 petitions; Compunnel Software Group alone has 2,966, about 74%, and the rest is small consulting firms plus two Novo Nordisk entities. For the statewide market see our New Jersey H-1B guide to pharma, finance and tech and the New Jersey sponsor list; this page stays inside the Princeton-Plainsboro corridor.
New Jersey's active F-1 and M-1 records fell 10.8% from October 2025 to October 2026 in the October 2026 SEVIS data, against 7.1% nationwide (our sums of DHS tables). That counts students, not jobs; our state-by-state SEVIS breakdown has the full table.
Princeton and Plainsboro H-1B sponsors, by the numbers
"Petitions decided" counts USCIS's first decision on each petition, approvals and denials, new and continuing employment, so a big number can be mostly extensions. Read the label: actively hiring means more than half of an employer's petitions in the extract were for new employment, mostly renewals fewer than one in ten, mixed in between.
Princeton-Plainsboro H-1B filers, USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub extract, FY2024 through FY2026 (FY2026 partial), as of 2026-11
| Employer (entity in the extract) | Listed city | Sector | Petitions decided | Label | Usual route for a first H-1B |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Compunnel Software Group Inc | Plainsboro | Professional, scientific and technical services | 2,966 | Mixed | Cap-subject (lottery) |
| CitiusTech Inc | Princeton | Professional, scientific and technical services | 778 | Mixed | Cap-subject (lottery) |
| BlackRock Financial Management Inc | Princeton | Finance and insurance | 743 | Mixed | Cap-subject (lottery) |
| Coforge Limited | Princeton | Professional, scientific and technical services | 697 | Mixed | Cap-subject (lottery) |
| Bristol-Myers Squibb Company | Princeton | Manufacturing | 530 | Mixed | Cap-subject (lottery) |
| The Trustees of Princeton University (full and truncated name) | Princeton | Educational services | 258 + 190 | Actively hiring | Generally cap-exempt |
| Pioneer Consulting Services LLC | Princeton | Professional, scientific and technical services | 218 | Mostly renewals | Cap-subject (lottery) |
| LatentView Analytics Corporation | Princeton | Professional, scientific and technical services | 171 | Mixed | Cap-subject (lottery) |
| Novo Nordisk Inc / Novo Nordisk Research and Development US Inc | Plainsboro | Pharmaceuticals (our label) | 53 / 26 | Mixed | Cap-subject (lottery) |
The larger filers have pages with the year-by-year split: Bristol-Myers Squibb, BlackRock Financial Management, CitiusTech, Compunnel, LatentView and Princeton University. To check a figure, search every entity name in the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub, which now says it covers "fiscal year 2009 through fiscal year 2026 (quarter 4)"; our extract stops partway through FY2026, so live FY2026 counts can be higher.
A Princeton address is not a Princeton job
The city in the Data Hub comes from the employer's mailing address, and USCIS's guide to the Data Hub says it "is not necessarily the beneficiary(ies) work location." A Princeton-listed firm may be filing for people at client sites or offices in other states.
To see where certified positions sit, use DOL's LCA disclosure data: the OFLC performance data page publishes it with a separate worksites file, latest release FY2026 Q3 (determinations through 2026-06-30). Location also changes your wage math. Princeton is in Mercer County and Plainsboro in Middlesex County, and DOL sets prevailing wages by area, so check both in the OFLC Wage Search. Under weighted selection a Level IV registration gets four lottery entries and a Level I registration one, so the wage level stated for your job and work area matters.
Bristol Myers Squibb H-1B for new graduates
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company files from a Princeton address (530 petitions, mixed label), but the Data Hub does not split petitions by seniority or job title, so it cannot answer the new-graduate question; the LCA disclosure data, with titles and wage levels, gets closer. For a new graduate, three things matter more than the company's overall record:
- The role. H-1B requires a specialty occupation, and pharma employers hire well beyond the lab, in data science, clinical data, IT, regulatory and supply chain. Our guide to pharma and biotech H-1B sponsors for non-research roles covers those paths.
- The wage level. An entry-level offer often maps to a lower wage level and fewer lottery entries; ask HR which level the registration and LCA will state.
- Your runway. A cap-subject employer needs you selected in a lottery season your OPT or STEM OPT still covers.
Novo Nordisk appears in the Plainsboro list under two entity names, Novo Nordisk Inc (53) and Novo Nordisk Research and Development US Inc (26). Search both, and ask which entity would petition for you.
On green cards, DOL's 2026-10-08 PERM action against eight employers (Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL and Capgemini; no end date announced as of 2026-11-01) names no employer on this page, and it "does not suspend any employer from the H-1B program," per Mayer Brown's summary.
BlackRock Princeton H-1B and OPT hiring
BlackRock Financial Management Inc (743 petitions, mixed label) files new-employment petitions. USCIS's Data Hub guide counts as new employment a worker joining a new employer "in a different nonimmigrant classification than the beneficiary currently holds," which is where an F-1 change of status falls. The count does not show how many were OPT hires or which desks sponsor. Three points for a BlackRock Princeton H-1B search:
- OPT and STEM OPT are different asks. Post-completion OPT runs on your own EAD, so the employer files nothing with USCIS to hire you on it. The 24-month STEM OPT extension needs an employer enrolled in E-Verify that signs your Form I-983 training plan.
- More than one entity. BlackRock Corporation US Inc (43) and BlackRock Investment Management LLC (41) also appear in the Princeton list. Ask which one would petition for you; as a mailing-address count, the 743 can include employees in other offices.
- Role by role. Ask the recruiter in writing whether your exact seat sponsors.
Our BlackRock H-1B guide breaks out the main entity's FY2024 numbers and explains why a STEM-designated degree changes how many lottery seasons you get.
Princeton University H-1B: the cap-exempt route
Princeton University is generally cap-exempt for its own employees. As an institution of higher education, its H-1B petitions are not counted against the annual cap under 8 CFR 214.2(h)(8)(iii)(F), in effect since 2025-01-17. There is no lottery and no March registration, and both name variants in the extract carry the actively-hiring label. Search both: the truncated "Princeton Universi" spelling holds 190 FY2024 petitions, the full name only 3 that year.
What a Princeton University H-1B means for you:
- No cap-gap. USCIS's cap-gap page says the provision "applies only to beneficiaries of cap-subject H-1B petitions," so the university must file well before your EAD ends. On 2026-11-01 USCIS's processing-times tool showed 80% of H-1B change-of-status petitions decided within 10 months; premium processing cuts USCIS's action time to 15 business days for an I-907 fee of $2,965. Our explainer on why cap-gap does not apply to cap-exempt H-1Bs walks through the timing.
- Leaving later is a new decision. Moving from the university to BMS or BlackRock makes you cap-subject unless you were previously counted against the cap in your six-year period. A cap-subject concurrent petition is not counted while your cap-exempt job continues; if that job ends, USCIS "may revoke" it.
- A nonprofit is not automatically cap-exempt. Other nonprofits must meet an affiliation or research test in the same regulation, such as a written affiliation agreement where "a fundamental activity" supports a university's mission. Ask in writing on what basis your role is filed cap-exempt.
- A pending draft, not a change. RIN 1615-AD00, at OIRA since 2026-08-24, has an agenda abstract that mentions "revising eligibility for cap exemptions" and "increasing oversight over third party placements." No text is public, so nothing has changed for university filings.
Plainsboro IT staffing firms and STEM OPT
No town is safe or unsafe; what matters is whether the specific employer meets the STEM OPT rules for your job. SEVP's Broadcast Message 2603-02, dated 2026-03-23, names the arrangement type directly: "As noted in the 2016 STEM OPT final rule, these employment arrangements remain a concern for fraud and are generally not an apt fit for STEM OPT opportunities," referring to IT recruitment, consulting firms and staffing agencies.
The broadcast also says it is not "itself a rule or a final action by SEVP." It is guidance about a business model, not a finding about any firm on this page, and many technology-services firms employ people directly on their own projects. The test is your arrangement:
- E-Verify. A STEM OPT employer must "be enrolled in and remain in good standing with the E-Verify" program, according to Study in the States' STEM OPT FAQ.
- A real training plan. The employer completes Sections 3 to 6 of Form I-983, explains "how the employer will provide oversight and supervision," and certifies pay "commensurate with that applicable to a similarly situated U.S. worker."
- Site visits. DHS may visit "employer locations that train STEM OPT students," with at least 48 hours' notice, or with none when the visit is "triggered by a complaint or other evidence of noncompliance," per its site-visit page.
The broadcast's red flags include a job location that "does not match the address listed on Form I-983," employer websites "that are vague with no examples of client work," duties that differ from what the school was told, and an unfamiliar employer hiring a large group of students from one school. A mostly-renewals label, like Pioneer Consulting's, is not a red flag; it means most petitions were for existing staff, so if you need a first H-1B, ask how many first-time petitions the firm files a year.
How to vet a Princeton or Plainsboro sponsor before you sign
- Search every entity name in the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub and note the new-employment share, not only the total.
- Download the latest LCA disclosure and worksites files from DOL's OFLC performance page, filter by the employer, and check job titles, wage levels and worksite cities.
- Check E-Verify enrollment in the E-Verify Employer Search before accepting a STEM OPT offer, under the name the employer enrolled with; a trade name returns nothing unless it was given at enrollment, and not every hiring site may be enrolled. Our guide to checking whether an OPT placement company is E-Verify enrolled shows the steps.
- Look up the employer on DOL's H-1B debarment list.
- Ask in writing which entity will sign your Form I-983 and file your I-129, where you will physically work, who supervises you, what wage level the LCA will state, and whether the role is filed cap-subject or cap-exempt. Our ten questions to ask an OPT placement consultancy before you sign adds the contract and refund questions.
- Take the offer letter and draft I-983 to your DSO before your start date, and bring petition or status-strategy questions to a licensed immigration attorney.
Worked example: two offers and one EAD end date
Say it is November 2026, your STEM OPT EAD ends on 2027-08-31, and you hold two offers: a Princeton-listed company and Princeton University.
Worked example, cap-subject vs cap-exempt (hypothetical EAD end date; dates as of 2026-11)
| When | Company offer (cap-subject) | Princeton University offer (cap-exempt) |
|---|---|---|
| Nov 2026 to Feb 2027 | Confirm entity, wage level and E-Verify; complete a new I-983 with the employer and send it to your DSO | Confirm in writing that the role is filed cap-exempt, and agree a filing date; if you start there on STEM OPT first, the same E-Verify and I-983 rules apply |
| March 2027 (expected, not announced) | Employer registers you for FY2028; selection is weighted by wage level | No registration needed |
| After selection or offer | Employer files the I-129 change of status | University files the I-129, with or without premium processing |
| 2027-08-31, EAD ends | Cap-gap can carry F-1 status and OPT work to 2028-04-01, or to the approved petition's start date (usually 2027-10-01) if earlier | No cap-gap: if the petition is still pending, your OPT work authorization still ends on this date |
| If not selected | STEM OPT ends 2027-08-31 with no later registration season inside your runway | Not applicable |
The cap-exempt offer removes lottery risk but makes the filing date the deciding variable; the cap-subject offer keeps cap-gap protection but, here, gives you one lottery season. Raise the filing date with the university's immigration counsel, and confirm your OPT end date with your DSO. Fees are on the G-1055 fee schedule (edition 10/26/26).
Common mistakes
- Treating the listed city as the job location. Check the LCA worksites file and ask where you will sit.
- Reading total petitions as first-time sponsorship. Read the label.
- Signing a STEM OPT offer before checking E-Verify and the I-983. The plan must describe the job you actually do.
- Counting on cap-gap for a university job. Cap-exempt petitions get none.
- Assuming every nonprofit is cap-exempt. Outside universities, the employer must meet the affiliation or research tests; ask on what basis it files.
- Reading the PERM action as an H-1B ban. It covers PERM for eight employers, none of them on this page.
- Accepting unpaid "bench" time as normal. SEVP's broadcast lists students "who never actually showed up for work" among its fraud indicators, and the SEVIS unemployment counter counts each day "without employer information." Ask your DSO how to report a gap.
- Searching one entity name. Legal-entity names can be truncated, as with Princeton University's second entry, so search every variant.
Frequently asked questions
Which companies in Princeton sponsor H-1B?
In the USCIS Data Hub extract behind our Princeton list, 58 employers with 25 or more petitions account for 6,303 petitions decided from FY2024 through part of FY2026, led by CitiusTech (778), BlackRock Financial Management (743), Coforge (697), Bristol-Myers Squibb (530) and Princeton University (258 plus 190 under a truncated name). In neighbouring Plainsboro, Compunnel has 2,966 of 4,008.
Does Bristol Myers Squibb sponsor H-1B for new graduates?
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company has 530 petitions decided from FY2024 through part of FY2026 and a mixed label, so new employment was between a tenth and half of them. The Data Hub has no seniority or job-title split, so check DOL's LCA disclosure data for BMS titles and wage levels, and ask the recruiter in writing whether your role sponsors.
Does BlackRock's Princeton office hire OPT students?
BlackRock Financial Management Inc (743 petitions, mixed label) files new-employment petitions, the USCIS category that covers changes into H-1B from F-1. Post-completion OPT needs no employer filing, while STEM OPT needs an E-Verify employer and a Form I-983. The Princeton listing is a mailing address and sponsorship is decided role by role, so confirm your exact seat in writing.
Is Princeton University cap-exempt?
Generally yes, for its own employees. As an institution of higher education, its H-1B petitions are not subject to the annual cap under 8 CFR 214.2(h)(8)(iii)(F), in effect since 2025-01-17, so there is no lottery. There is also no cap-gap, so the university must file well before your OPT or STEM OPT EAD ends.
Are Plainsboro IT staffing firms safe for STEM OPT?
No town is safe or unsafe. What matters is whether your employer is enrolled in E-Verify, follows your Form I-983 and actually trains and supervises you. SEVP's Broadcast Message 2603-02 (2026-03-23) calls IT recruitment, consulting and staffing arrangements generally not an apt fit for STEM OPT, a warning about a business model, not any named firm. Show the offer and I-983 to your DSO before you start.

How we checked this: employer and city figures come from the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub extract behind our company pages (FY2024 through FY2026, FY2026 partial; employers with at least 25 petitions); rules and status come from the USCIS, DHS, DOL and Federal Register pages above, read on 2026-11-01.
This is general information, not legal or tax advice; your own I-20, I-94 and notices, your DSO and your immigration attorney govern your situation.
Where to go from here
The corridor rewards a short, specific target list: one or two pharma or finance employers, the university if your work fits it, and only those service firms that pass the checklist.
