Does Fidelity Investments Sponsor H-1B Visas? Which Fidelity Entity Files and the OPT-to-H-1B Path
Fidelity files H-1B petitions under three legal names, mostly renewals, while the current postings we checked rule sponsorship out. How to read both.

Part of our guide to companies that sponsor H-1B visas.
Does Fidelity sponsor H-1B? Yes. Fidelity Investments files H-1B petitions at volume, and the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub shows it. For fiscal year 2024, the petitioner name "FIDELITY INVESTMENTS" received 235 initial-employment approvals and 1,536 continuing approvals, against 2 initial and 22 continuing denials: 1,795 first decisions, 98.7% approved. A second row, "FMR LLC D B A FIDELITY INVESTMENTS", adds 12 initial and 25 continuing approvals. Most of that volume is renewals, and the data does not tell you whether today's opening sponsors. All five Fidelity postings we opened in early November 2026, three software engineering roles among them, said: "Fidelity will not provide immigration sponsorship for this position."
Status as of 2026-11-01: wage-weighted H-1B selection is in effect (since 2026-02-27). FY2028 registration is not announced; USCIS must give at least 30 days' notice, so March 2027 is an expectation, not a date. The STEM OPT 180-day automatic extension is in effect, unchanged, for timely filers; the EAD final rule published 2026-10-14 did not change it. The $100,000 H-1B payment is blocked and not collected. Two worker-side changes are only proposed: ending the discretionary 60-day grace period for H-1B and other work-visa holders (comments close 2026-11-10; the F-1 grace period is a separate rule) and removing deference on extensions (comments close 2026-11-13).
Does Fidelity sponsor H-1B? The short answer
Yes. By our sum of two Hub rows, USCIS made 1,832 first decisions on H-1B petitions for Fidelity petitioner names in fiscal year 2024 and approved 98.7% of them. About 86% of those decisions were continuing employment, meaning people already on H-1B, while 247 were new-employment approvals. Whether a Fidelity opening sponsors is stated posting by posting, and every current posting we checked said it will not.

USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub, FY2024 first decisions, as extracted for our company pages (as of 2026-11)
| Petitioner (name in the Hub) | Initial approvals | Initial denials | Continuing approvals | Continuing denials | Total decisions | Approved |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| FIDELITY INVESTMENTS | 235 | 2 | 1,536 | 22 | 1,795 | 98.7% |
| FMR LLC D B A FIDELITY INVESTMENTS | 12 | 0 | 25 | 0 | 37 | 100% |
| FIDELITY TECHNOLOGY GROUP LLC D B A FIDELITY INVESTMENTS | No FY2024 row | - | - | - | - | - |
| Both FY2024 rows (our arithmetic) | 247 | 2 | 1,561 | 22 | 1,832 | 98.7% |
What "initial" and "continuing" mean for you
The Hub counts "the first decisions USCIS makes on petitions for initial and continuing employment"; appeals and revocations are excluded. Initial employment, where a first H-1B after OPT lands, is a new H-1B job. Continuing employment covers people already in H-1B status: extensions, amendments and, generally, transfers in, which the Hub's glossary also counts in a separate "Change of Employer Approval" field (Understanding Our H-1B Employer Data Hub).
By our arithmetic, initial approvals were about 14% of Fidelity's FY2024 approvals across the two rows (247 of 1,808): mostly extensions for people already on H-1B, with a smaller but real stream of new petitions. One year is not a trend, and 98.7% measures petitions Fidelity chose to file, not your odds.
All three Fidelity rows list a Boston, Massachusetts mailing address, but USCIS notes the Hub's city "is not necessarily the beneficiary(ies) work location," and Fidelity's careers site lists many other cities. If Boston is your target, our Boston H-1B job market guide covers the cap-exempt universities and hospitals hiring alongside its financial employers.
Why Fidelity's numbers are split across three names
The split comes from how the Hub labels employers, not from one part of Fidelity stopping.
- One row per tax ID. USCIS's guide says "The most common spelling of employer name per unique tax ID is used," and the Hub page says it "identifies employers by the last four digits of their tax identification." Each Fidelity legal entity gets its own row.
- "D B A" means "doing business as." "FMR LLC D B A FIDELITY INVESTMENTS" is FMR LLC operating under the Fidelity brand; FMR LLC is also the copyright holder named on Fidelity's careers site.
- Names shift between years. The Fidelity Technology Group row has no FY2024 decisions in our extract but appears in later years, as the plain "FIDELITY INVESTMENTS" row thins out. Our reading: filings moved to a different legal name or spelling; Fidelity did not stop filing. Compare the last four tax-ID digits, and pull post-FY2024 years from the Hub itself.
Common misconception: "A sponsor-lookup site shows zero H-1B records for Fidelity, so Fidelity doesn't sponsor." Correction: a site that matches one name can miss most of Fidelity's filings. On 2026-11-01 one lookup site reported no H-1B records for "Fidelity" while another split it into many entity pages. Search the Hub for "FIDELITY" and "FMR", and add rows only within one fiscal year; our guide to building a sponsor target list from LCA data and the Data Hub walks through the search.
Which Fidelity entity files H-1B petitions?
The entity that employs you files, and your offer letter names it. That entity registers you for the lottery, files the Labor Condition Application with DOL and Form I-129 with USCIS, and becomes the petitioner on your I-797. USCIS says "You can only file an H-1B cap-subject petition if you receive a selection notice" (USCIS H-1B registration page), so the registering entity matters from day one. A move between Fidelity entities can also be a change of employer even if your team stays the same; ask Fidelity's immigration counsel, and your DSO if you are on STEM OPT, before a reorganization takes effect.
How to check a Fidelity role before you rely on it
- Read the full posting on Fidelity's careers site for a sponsorship line. In the postings we read, it sat in the "Experience Level" section: "Fidelity will not provide immigration sponsorship for this position."
- Copy the exact legal entity from your offer letter, not the brand on the job board.
- Search the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub for "FIDELITY" and "FMR", and read the new-employment and change-of-employer figures for that entity.
- Filter DOL's LCA disclosure file (latest public file FY2026 Q3, through 2026-06-30, on the DOL OFLC performance data page) by entity and job title for recent titles, wages and worksites.
- Look up the legal name in E-Verify Employer Search if you will need STEM OPT; a trade name the employer did not enroll under returns no results.
- Ask the recruiter in writing whether the role is eligible for FY2028 registration, which entity would register you, and whether a "no sponsorship" line also rules out candidates on OPT or STEM OPT.
- Report your employer through the SEVP Portal or to your DSO as your school instructs; take petition questions to Fidelity's immigration counsel or your own immigration attorney.
Does Fidelity sponsor H-1B for new grads?
Fidelity files new petitions, but the 247 FY2024 initial approvals mix first H-1Bs after OPT with other new hires, such as workers from abroad; the Hub counts petitions, not titles or seniority.
Fidelity also publishes a program map, not a sponsorship policy. Its entry-level roles page lists full-time entry-level roles (license-track customer service jobs), a summer internship ("this 10-week program") and career discovery programs, with no sponsorship statement (checked early November 2026). The statement sits in individual postings: a financial services representative role requiring FINRA Series 7 and 66 licenses, a portfolio analyst role and three software engineering roles all said Fidelity "will not provide immigration sponsorship for this position."
Five postings are not a company policy, so treat a posting with that line as closed to sponsorship and one without it as unknown until a recruiter answers in writing.
Even on a sponsoring team, a new grad's first H-1B goes through the cap lottery: Fidelity is a for-profit company, not a university or affiliated nonprofit, so its first-time H-1B hires are cap-subject. Under weighted selection, in effect since 2026-02-27, each unique beneficiary gets entries based generally on the OEWS wage level the offered wage meets, from four at Level IV down to one at Level I (final rule). See how the wage-weighted lottery works.
A worked timeline: a May 2026 STEM master's graduate joining Fidelity
Assume a STEM master's degree, an offer from a Fidelity entity, and post-completion OPT starting 2026-07-01. Anything marked "expected" has not been announced.
OPT-to-H-1B path at a cap-subject employer (as of 2026-11)
| Date | What happens | Rule that governs it |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-07-01 | Post-completion OPT starts; the (c)(3)(B) EAD runs up to 12 months, here to 2027-06-30 | 90-day unemployment limit |
| Spring 2027 (expected) | FY2028 registration; the Fidelity entity on your offer registers you | Not announced; at least 30 days' notice required (8 CFR 214.2(h)(8)(iii)(A)(3)) |
| If selected | The entity files Form I-129 requesting a change of status with a 2027-10-01 start date | Cap-gap carries F-1 status and OPT work past 2027-06-30 until the earlier of April 1, 2028 or the petition start date, here 2027-10-01 |
| If not selected | The graduate files the STEM OPT Form I-765 before the OPT EAD expires on 2027-06-30; the entity must be in E-Verify and sign Form I-983 | A timely filing gets the 180-day automatic extension |
| 2027-07-01 to 2029-06-30 | STEM OPT on a 24-month (c)(3)(C) EAD | Spans the next two spring registration seasons if the calendar holds (our arithmetic); 150-day aggregate unemployment limit |
Sources: the USCIS Policy Manual, Volume 10 (EAD lengths) and the USCIS cap-gap page. Your DSO handles cap-gap and the STEM OPT recommendation; Fidelity's counsel handles the petition. Talk to your DSO before any trip abroad while an OPT or STEM OPT I-765 is pending, and to an immigration attorney before travelling while a change-of-status H-1B petition is pending.
Does Fidelity hire OPT and STEM OPT students?
Hiring you on post-completion OPT asks nothing immigration-related of Fidelity, because the EAD is yours. Whether a "will not provide immigration sponsorship" posting still accepts OPT candidates is the recruiter's call; some employers mean only that they will not file an H-1B later (our reading), so ask early. STEM OPT asks more: the employing entity must be enrolled in E-Verify, sign your Form I-983 and attest that it "will have and maintain a bona fide employer-employee relationship with the student" (USCIS STEM OPT page). On the I-765 you list "Your employer's name as listed in E-Verify," so the legal entity matters again.
For a timely STEM OPT filing, the same page still says "we will automatically extend your employment authorization for 180 days." The EAD final rule published 2026-10-14 (91 FR 65306) amends only 8 CFR 274a.13 and never mentions STEM OPT, so the 180 days still apply; a STEM I-765 filed after your OPT EAD expires gets none. The SEVIS Help Hub sets 90 days of unemployment on post-completion OPT and 150 days in aggregate on STEM OPT (as of 2026-11-01). Your own counter, cap-gap and I-983 questions go to your DSO.
How does Fidelity's H-1B hiring compare with banks?
For your visa, the mechanics match a large bank's: the same weighted lottery, LCA and I-983 rules. What differs is the shape of each employer's data, so pull the same figures for each from the Hub.
What to compare between Fidelity and a bank (FY2024 Hub data, as of 2026-11)
| Question | Fidelity, FY2024 | How to get the bank's figure |
|---|---|---|
| Total first decisions | 1,832 across two rows | Add every row for the bank's legal entities in the same fiscal year |
| Share of approvals that were initial | About 14% (247 of 1,808) | Initial approvals divided by all approvals |
| Filing names to search | Three names, two with FY2024 data | Search the brand and the parent company's legal name |
| Where sponsorship is stated | Per posting; all five we opened said "will not provide immigration sponsorship" | Read each posting in full |
The initial share shows the room for someone new, and on that measure Fidelity is more renewal-heavy than a large bank: JPMorgan Chase's main petitioner row in the same FY2024 Hub extract shows a clearly larger initial share (our arithmetic). Our JPMorgan Chase H-1B guide gives that bank's figures.
Does Fidelity sponsor green cards?
The H-1B Hub does not cover green cards, and we print no Fidelity PERM count. Search DOL's PERM disclosure files (latest public file FY2026 Q3, through 2026-06-30, on the DOL performance page) for the exact entity name, then compare PERM volume with that entity's LCA volume, as our PERM lookup guide shows.
Two dated checks help. Fidelity is not among the eight employers DOL announced on 2026-10-08 it had suspended from PERM (Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL and Capgemini). It is in effect with no published notice or end date as of 2026-11-01, and, as Mayer Brown notes, it "does not suspend any employer from the H-1B program." Fidelity is also not on DOL's H-1B debarment list "effective as of October 1, 2026." Neither fact promises your team will file. On timing, DOL's FLAG processing-times page showed PERM analyst review at January 2026 priority dates as of 2026-10-21, with an average of 303 days for determinations made in August 2026. DOL's PERM labor-market-test NPRM (RIN 1205-AC29) cleared OIRA review on 2026-10-23 but is not published, so today's 20 CFR 656.17 recruitment rules still apply.
Your country of birth shapes the wait more than your employer does. In the November 2026 Visa Bulletin, the EB-2 Final Action Date for India stayed at 2013-11-01 while rest of world advanced to 2025-04-01. Consular cases always use Final Action Dates, and USCIS told November adjustment filers to use the Dates for Filing chart (USCIS filing charts). December's bulletin was not out as of 2026-11-01.
Does Fidelity accept H-1B transfers?
Fidelity handles a large volume of people already on H-1B: 1,561 continuing approvals across two rows in FY2024, a category that generally includes transfers in. Check the Hub's separate change-of-employer figure for the entity on your offer; neither number promises an opening on a given team.
Under portability, the USCIS H-1B page says "you may begin working for the new employer as soon as they properly file a non-frivolous Form I-129 petition on your behalf," or on the requested start date if later, if you have not worked without authorization since your last admission and the filing comes before your authorized stay expires. A transfer generally needs no new lottery if you were already counted against the cap. The USCIS I-129 page says a court "vacated agency guidance implementing the $100,000 payment requirement"; Proclamation 11069 stays in effect on paper to 2027-09-21, but the payment is not collected. Even if collection resumed, it would not reach an extension of stay, amendment or change of status that USCIS grants inside the US, the usual form of an in-country transfer (our reading); a denied change of status or a consular-notification petition would be covered.
Deference matters later: USCIS now defers to a prior approval on extensions with the same parties and facts, which affects future extensions at Fidelity more than the transfer itself (our reading). Removing it is proposed (NPRM, 2026-10-14), with comments due 2026-11-13 (check the Federal Register for the outcome after 2026-11-13).
What if Fidelity announces layoffs?
We have no verified, dated Fidelity layoff figure, so we print none. Three rules matter:
- PERM. Under 20 CFR 656.17(k), after "a layoff by the employer applicant in the area of intended employment within 6 months" of filing in the same or a related occupation, the employer must show it notified and considered laid-off US workers. That can delay a green card without ending H-1B sponsorship.
- EO 14431. Executive Order 14431 (signed 2026-09-18) is in effect as a directive that makes layoffs a factor in H-1B administration. As of 2026-11-01 no public DOL, USCIS or State guidance implements it, and it creates no automatic denial.
- Your own job. A laid-off H-1B worker still has the discretionary grace period of up to 60 consecutive days, or until the authorized validity period ends if sooner (USCIS H-1B page). Eliminating it is proposed (NPRM), with comments closing 2026-11-10 at 11:59 p.m. ET (check the Federal Register for the outcome after 2026-11-10). On STEM OPT the 150-day aggregate counter applies instead; call your DSO the same week.
Common mistakes
- Searching one name. "Fidelity Investments" alone misses FMR LLC and, in later years, Fidelity Technology Group.
- Treating a third-party zero as a policy. An empty lookup result usually reflects name matching, not Fidelity's filings.
- Assuming every Fidelity role sponsors. About 1,800 FY2024 approvals coexist with current postings, technology roles included, that say "will not provide immigration sponsorship for this position."
- Counting continuing approvals as open doors. About 86% of FY2024 decisions were for people already on H-1B.
- Moving between Fidelity entities without paperwork. Another entity can be a new employer for H-1B and STEM OPT purposes.
- Assuming the $100,000 payment hits your OPT-to-H-1B switch. It is not collected, and a change of status USCIS grants inside the US was never covered.
Frequently asked questions
Does Fidelity sponsor H-1B for new grads?
Fidelity does file new H-1B petitions. Its two FY2024 petitioner rows in the USCIS Data Hub show 247 initial-employment approvals, the category where a first H-1B after OPT lands, though the Hub does not show job level. Sponsorship is stated posting by posting, and all five Fidelity postings we opened in early November 2026, software engineering roles included, said Fidelity will not provide immigration sponsorship for that position. A new grad still needs a selection in the wage-weighted lottery, in effect since 2026-02-27, and FY2028 registration had not been announced as of 2026-11-01.
Does Fidelity hire OPT and STEM OPT students?
Post-completion OPT needs no employer sponsorship because the EAD belongs to you, though recruiters read a no-sponsorship posting differently, so ask whether it accepts OPT candidates. STEM OPT requires the employing Fidelity entity to be enrolled in E-Verify and to sign your Form I-983. As of 2026-11-01 a timely STEM OPT filing still gets the 180-day automatic extension, which the 2026-10-14 EAD final rule did not change, and the unemployment limits remain 90 days on OPT and 150 days in aggregate on STEM OPT.
Which Fidelity entity files H-1B petitions?
The legal entity named on your offer letter files. In the USCIS Data Hub for FY2024, almost all Fidelity decisions sit under FIDELITY INVESTMENTS (1,795 first decisions), with 37 more under FMR LLC D B A FIDELITY INVESTMENTS. A third name, FIDELITY TECHNOLOGY GROUP LLC D B A FIDELITY INVESTMENTS, has no FY2024 row but appears in later years. The Hub gives each tax ID its own row under one name spelling, so a different filing entity or spelling shows up as a new name.
Does Fidelity sponsor green cards?
The H-1B Data Hub does not cover green cards, so check DOL's PERM disclosure files (latest public file through 2026-06-30) for the exact Fidelity entity name. Fidelity is not among the eight employers DOL announced on 2026-10-08 it had suspended from PERM, a suspension that does not reach H-1B. As of 2026-10-21, DOL's analyst review had reached PERM cases with January 2026 priority dates.
Does Fidelity accept H-1B transfers?
Fidelity's FY2024 data show 1,561 continuing-employment approvals across two petitioner names, a category that generally includes transfers in from other employers, but the numbers do not promise an opening for you. Under H-1B portability you may start with the new employer once it properly files a non-frivolous Form I-129, if you meet USCIS's conditions. A transfer generally needs no new lottery if you were already counted against the cap, and the blocked $100,000 payment never covered extensions or changes of status that USCIS grants inside the US.

How we checked this: employer figures come from the FY2024 USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub extract behind our company pages; rules, dates and quotes come from the USCIS, DOL, Federal Register, E-Verify and Fidelity careers pages above, read 2026-11-01 to 2026-11-02. The sponsorship line was checked in five live Fidelity postings on 2026-11-02 (three software engineering, one portfolio analyst, one financial services representative).
This is general information, not legal or tax advice; your own I-20, EAD, I-797 and I-94, your DSO and a licensed immigration attorney govern your case.
If you are on OPT or STEM OPT and building a list of employers like Fidelity that file H-1B petitions, F1Jobs helps international candidates run a focused search for roles where sponsorship is on the table.
