Part of our guide to companies that sponsor H-1B visas.

Yes, Micron sponsors H-1B visas, including first-time H-1B cases, not only extensions. In fiscal year 2024 the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub recorded 141 initial-employment approvals, 217 continuing-employment approvals and zero denials for Micron Technology Inc. Most of its recent H-1B labor filings list Boise, Idaho, its headquarters, where it is building two fabs; the first of up to four planned fabs is under construction in Clay, New York.

Status, November 1, 2026. In effect: wage-weighted H-1B selection (since 2026-02-27) and the STEM OPT 180-day automatic extension. Not announced: FY2028 registration (30 days' notice required). Proposed: DOL's prevailing-wage rule (RIN 1205-AC30). Blocked: collection of the $100,000 H-1B payment (USCIS I-129 page); Proclamation 11069 itself stays in effect on paper to 2027-09-21. Cleared OIRA review (2026-10-23), not published: DOL's PERM labor-market-test proposal (RIN 1205-AC29); current PERM rules apply.

Does Micron sponsor H-1B visas? What the FY2024 numbers show

Yes. In fiscal year 2024, USCIS's Employer Data Hub shows 358 first H-1B decisions for Micron Technology Inc: 141 initial-employment approvals, 217 continuing-employment approvals and no denials. Because initial employment covers first-time H-1B work, such as an F-1 graduate leaving OPT, a share near 39% suggests real new-graduate intake.

Metric (FY2024)Micron Technology IncWhat it means

Initial-employment denials0No new case denied at first decision
Continuing-employment approvals217Extensions, amendments and employer changes for people already on H-1B
Continuing-employment denials0No continuing case denied at first decision
Total first decisions358Overall scale that year
Initial share39%141 of 358 (our arithmetic)

Three cautions. The ratio: initial employment also includes experienced hires from abroad, so the share suggests new-grad hiring without proving it. The scale: Intel had 2,551 first decisions that year (see our guide to Intel's H-1B record), about seven times Micron's volume (our arithmetic), so expect Micron to decide sponsorship requisition by requisition. The denials: zero is not a promise; the Hub counts first decisions only, leaving out appeals, revocations and pending cases. We quote FY2024, the latest year we treat as complete; our Micron employer page shows every year.

Which Micron entity files H-1B?

Mainly Micron Technology Inc, the only Micron-named petitioner among the roughly 1,000 high-volume sponsors in the extract behind our company pages. But DOL's LCA disclosure file for October 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 shows H-1B LCAs from Micron Idaho Semiconductor Manufacturing (Triton) LLC, almost all for Boise, and from Micron Semiconductor Products Inc, mostly for San Jose (our reading, 2026-11-02). The Hub keys each employer to "the last four digits of the Petitioner's Tax ID Number from the Form I-129," so an affiliate filing under a different tax ID is counted separately, not under Micron Technology Inc. Match the petitioner on your offer letter and I-797 before comparing figures.

Aggregator counts for Micron rarely match the Hub because many count DOL Labor Condition Applications (one LCA can cover several positions, and many never become petitions), use calendar rather than federal fiscal years, or rank a partial year as if it were complete.

Where is Micron hiring? Boise, New York and Virginia

Boise leads on both H-1B filings and near-term fab building; Clay, New York, near Syracuse, is the long-range site; Manassas, Virginia, runs an existing fab. The dates below are from Micron's Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended September 3, 2026; output dates are projections.

Micron's US manufacturing sites, per its FY2026 Form 10-K (as of 2026-11)

SiteWhat Micron reportsWhy it matters to you
Boise, first new fabConstruction began October 2023, "with first DRAM wafer output projected in mid-calendar 2027"The fab nearest to production
Boise, second new fabConstruction began in 2026; Micron expects "initial wafer output by late calendar 2028"First output would fall inside a 2026 graduate's STEM OPT window (our arithmetic)
Clay, New YorkUp to four fabs "to be built over the next 20-plus years"; ground broken January 2026; "We expect initial wafer output in calendar 2030"Check worksite data before assuming sponsored roles exist there
Manassas, VirginiaFirst production starts of its 1-alpha DDR4 technology in 2026An operating fab and Micron's second most common LCA worksite after Boise (our reading)

Micron's December 2024 CHIPS Act agreements provide up to $6.1 billion in direct funding "for a planned fab in Boise, Idaho, and two planned fabs in Clay, New York," and June 2025 amendments added the second planned Boise fab. Our CHIPS Act overview covers the wider industry; this page sticks to Micron's own filings.

Fabs are not the whole map. In DOL's LCA file for October 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 (on the OFLC performance page), most Micron Technology Inc H-1B LCAs list Boise worksites; the rest are spread across Manassas, Virginia; Richardson and Austin, Texas; San Jose and Folsom, California; Longmont, Colorado; and elsewhere (our reading, 2026-11-02). The occupations listed most often are electrical, electronics, materials and industrial engineers, codes that commonly cover fab process, device and test roles (our reading); your own SOC code follows your job duties.

Nationally, Indeed Hiring Lab's October 22, 2026 snapshot put the engineering postings index around 145 and software development around 78-79, the lowest of the five sectors charted: national data, not Micron's, but engineering demand has held up far better than software.

Does Micron's New York fab hire international engineers?

Not yet in the public data. The Hub cannot answer this: USCIS's guide to the Hub says its city and state are "indicated in the mailing address of the employer and is not necessarily the beneficiary(ies) work location." Read DOL's LCA file instead, latest through 2026-06-30 (FY2026 Q3). In it we found no LCA from any Micron entity with a New York worksite (our reading), which fits a fab not expected to produce until calendar 2030. Watch each quarterly file; a New York LCA would show intent to place an H-1B worker there, not an approval. Already on H-1B? Raise any move between sites with Micron's immigration counsel first, because a new worksite can require new filings.

Boise salaries, wage levels and the weighted lottery

Under weighted selection, in effect since 2026-02-27, a registration is entered once at wage Level I and up to four times at Level IV, based on the highest OEWS level the offered wage reaches for your occupation and worksite area (USCIS registration page; final rule). DOL defines the prevailing wage as "the average wage paid to similarly employed workers in a specific occupation in the area of intended employment" (DOL wage resources).

Our reading: thresholds in a smaller metro such as Boise are often lower than on the costliest coasts, so a salary may reach a higher level there. Only a lookup for your SOC code and county settles it (our prevailing-wage lookup guide); we quote no Micron salary.

Two items are not final. DOL's prevailing-wage proposal (published 2026-03-27; still proposed, no final rule) would raise Level I from the 17th to the 34th percentile and Level IV from the 67th to the 88th; today's levels apply. FY2028 registration is not announced: USCIS must give at least 30 days' notice, and March 2027 is only an expectation. The FY2027 round ran March 4 to 19, 2026, at $215 per registration.

How to check the wage level for a Micron offer

  1. Ask the recruiter which SOC code and worksite address your LCA would use.
  2. Search the OFLC Wage Search for that SOC code and county, such as Ada County for Boise or Onondaga County for Clay.
  3. Compare your salary with the four levels; the highest one it equals or exceeds is the level a registration would list.
  4. Confirm in writing whether the role includes H-1B registration in your first cap season.

Our guide to manufacturing and process engineer sponsorship covers STEM OPT as a bridge to H-1B for fab roles.

Does Micron hire OPT and STEM OPT students in Boise?

The data points that way: Micron's 141 FY2024 initial-employment approvals fall in the bucket that includes F-1 graduates leaving OPT, and Boise leads its LCA worksites. Micron publishes no OPT hiring count, so ask the recruiter whether a requisition accepts candidates who will later need sponsorship.

USCIS's STEM OPT page says the employer must "Remain a participant in good standing with E-Verify, as determined by USCIS" and report material changes on a modified Form I-983. The E-Verify Employer Search warns that a listing with several sites "does not necessarily mean that all of the hiring sites are enrolled in E-Verify."

  1. Search the E-Verify Employer Search for the exact entity on your offer letter, check that your site's state is listed, and ask HR to confirm your hiring site uses E-Verify.
  2. Complete the Form I-983 with your manager, using the E-Verify company ID HR gives you, and send it to your DSO for the SEVIS recommendation.
  3. Confirm the filing window with your DSO: a STEM OPT I-765 filed before the OPT EAD expires carries the 180-day automatic extension (in effect, unchanged by the 2026-10-14 EAD rule); one filed after it expires does not.

The unemployment limits are 90 days on post-completion OPT and 150 in total once STEM OPT is added (SEVIS Help Hub). E-Verify runs on a stopgap funding law through 2026-12-11; in the 2025 shutdown it went offline from 2025-10-01 until about 10-08. Unless Congress passes funding by 2026-12-11, ask HR how a lapse would affect a December start.

Does Micron sponsor green cards?

Yes: Micron files PERM labor certifications, the usual first step of an employer-sponsored green card. DOL's PERM disclosure file for cases decided October 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 lists Micron Technology Inc, and its affiliate Micron Semiconductor Products Inc, on certified cases; Micron Technology Inc's are led by Boise worksites, followed by San Jose and Manassas, with none in New York (our reading, 2026-11-02). We quote no count; filter the file yourself.

Micron is not among the eight employers DOL said on 2026-10-08 it would stop processing PERM cases for (Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL and Capgemini; in effect as announced, with no written notice or end date), an action that, Mayer Brown notes, "does not suspend any employer from the H-1B program." Nor is Micron on DOL's H-1B debarment list effective as of October 1, 2026. When PERM starts for a given employee is company policy, so ask HR. As of 2026-10-21, DOL FLAG showed PERM analyst review at January 2026 priority dates, averaging 303 days (August 2026 determinations).

Then comes the queue. For November 2026, USCIS says employment-based I-485 filers "must use the Dates for Filing chart" (USCIS chart page); approval still waits for the Final Action Date, and consular cases always use Final Action Dates.
