Part of our guide to companies that sponsor H-1B visas.

Yes, Barclays sponsors H-1B visas. USCIS's H-1B Employer Data Hub shows Barclays filing through three main US entities, with 263 initial-employment approvals between them in FY2024: 179 at Barclays Services Corp (technology and operations), 47 at Barclays Capital Inc. (investment banking and markets) and 37 at Barclays Services LLC. So if you are asking "does Barclays sponsor H-1B" for an analyst or tech role, the answer is yes, but sponsorship is decided role by role, through whichever entity hires you.

Status as of 2026-11-01. Announced: about 5,000 Barclays job cuts (about 5% of staff) on 2026-10-22, citing AI, reported as mostly outside the US; no US figure is public. In effect: wage-weighted H-1B selection (since 2026-02-27) and Executive Order 14431, which tells agencies to weigh a sponsor's layoffs. Not announced: FY2028 H-1B registration (USCIS must give at least 30 days' notice). Blocked: collection of the $100,000 H-1B payment, although Proclamation 11069 still stands on paper.

Does Barclays sponsor H-1B? The short answer

Yes. Barclays sponsors H-1B workers through separate US legal entities: mainly Barclays Services Corp for technology and operations and Barclays Capital Inc. for banking and markets. In FY2024 its three main entities received 263 initial-employment approvals, with 3 denials in 581 first decisions. Each offer is still sponsored case by case, and a cap-subject hire must first be selected in the H-1B lottery.

Which Barclays entity sponsors H-1B?

Mostly Barclays Services Corp. It files the bulk of Barclays' US H-1B petitions and typically employs the bank's technology and operations staff in New York and New Jersey. Barclays Capital Inc., the investment banking and markets entity, and Barclays Services LLC file at smaller volume.

This matters because one legal employer, not a brand, files an H-1B petition. The entity on your offer letter files your Labor Condition Application (LCA) with the Department of Labor, signs your Form I-129 and appears as petitioner on your I-797 approval notice. Banks often split filings this way; Goldman Sachs files its H-1B petitions across several legal entities too.

How to read the Barclays numbers

Does Barclays sponsor H-1B for investment banking analysts?

Yes, for qualifying roles. Barclays Capital Inc. had 47 initial-employment approvals and no denials in FY2024, and banking and markets hires generally sit in that entity. Your role still has to qualify as a specialty occupation, and a cap-subject case still has to get through the lottery.

Two tests decide whether a Barclays analyst offer becomes H-1B status:

What about Barclays technology roles?

Barclays Services Corp holds most of the bank's H-1B activity. Software, data, cybersecurity and operations roles face the same lottery and specialty-occupation rules as banking roles, but candidates often hold STEM-designated degrees, which can open the 24-month STEM OPT extension and more lottery attempts. Our guide to H-1B sponsorship for non-finance roles at investment banks covers how to pitch a tech background to a bank.

Are Barclays' 2026 job cuts affecting US hiring?

As of 2026-11-01, nobody outside Barclays can say how many US roles are affected. Barclays announced on 2026-10-22 that it would cut about 5,000 roles, about 5% of its workforce, citing AI. Reports of the announcement put the cuts by year-end and mostly outside the US, but the CNBC article linked below gives no timeframe or location, and no US figure was public as of 2026-11-01.

What is on the record:

What it means for you depends on where you stand:

Why layoffs can matter to H-1B filings. Executive Order 14431 (signed 2026-09-18; in effect as a directive) tells State, Labor and DHS to take into account, in LCAs, petitions and visas, "whether the employer sponsor directly or indirectly engaged in layoffs within the previous year or plans future layoffs that negatively affect the employment of similarly situated United States workers." As of 2026-11-01 no agency has published guidance on how that test works, and the order creates no automatic denial. Nothing public says whether it touches Barclays' announcement, so if you hold or expect a Barclays H-1B, ask your own immigration attorney.

Does Barclays hire international students in the US?

Its filing record shows it hires people who need sponsorship, with 263 initial-employment approvals across three entities in FY2024. The Hub does not say how many went to former F-1 students, so ask the recruiter early whether your program accepts candidates who will need sponsorship.

Internships are a separate question, because a summer analyst role during your degree usually runs on CPT, not OPT. SEVP's CPT broadcasts (BCM 2608-01 and 2608-02) are in effect as guidance and challenged in AAU v. DHS, with a preliminary-injunction hearing set for 2026-11-06 at 3:00 p.m. (check the docket for the outcome after 2026-11-06). Some schools have paused CPT approvals, so your DSO decides what your school will authorize. Our guide to investment banking summer analyst internships on CPT covers the timing.

Worked timeline: a Barclays OPT hire heading into the FY2028 lottery

Here is a hypothetical. You finished a STEM master's in May 2026 and started at Barclays Services Corp on post-completion OPT on 2026-07-06, with an EAD that ends 2027-07-05.

Three details matter. Cap-gap ends automatically if the petition is denied, withdrawn, revoked or rejected, per the USCIS cap-gap page. The USCIS STEM OPT page requires an employer enrolled in E-Verify and a signed Form I-983 training plan. And cap-gap covers only cap-subject petitions, never cap-exempt ones; a first H-1B at a for-profit bank like Barclays is normally cap-subject. How to confirm Barclays will sponsor your role

  1. Read your offer letter for the exact employing entity (Barclays Services Corp, Barclays Capital Inc., Barclays Services LLC or another) and the job title.
  2. Search that entity name in the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub and compare initial with continuing approvals by fiscal year.
  3. Check the DOL Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure files on the DOL performance data page for the same entity, job title and worksite city to see which wage levels it has filed at. The latest LCA files run through 2026-06-30 (FY2026 Q3). Our guide to building a target list from LCA and Data Hub data shows the filters.
  4. Ask the recruiter in writing whether the role is eligible for H-1B sponsorship and whether Barclays will enter you in the FY2028 registration.
  5. Confirm with HR that the hiring entity is enrolled in E-Verify and will sign Form I-983 if you may need STEM OPT.
  6. Report your employer through the SEVP Portal or to your DSO, as your school directs, and ask your DSO how your OPT dates line up with the registration calendar.
  7. Consult a licensed immigration attorney before any status move, such as a transfer between Barclays entities or travel while a petition is pending. Barclays' counsel represents the company, not you.

Does Barclays sponsor green cards?

Barclays' green card filings are public, but this guide does not count them. Employment-based sponsorship usually starts with a DOL PERM labor certification, then Form I-140, and DOL's PERM disclosure files (latest public file: FY2026 Q3, on the same DOL performance page) let you search each Barclays entity. Barclays is not among the eight employers whose PERM processing DOL announced on 2026-10-08 it had suspended; the eight reported are Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL and Capgemini. As of 2026-11-01 DOL had issued no written notice or end date, and Mayer Brown's summary notes that the action "does not suspend any employer from the H-1B program."

When a bank starts PERM is company policy, so ask HR. Two dated numbers show why timelines vary. DOL's FLAG processing page put PERM analyst review at January 2026 priority dates, with an average of 303 days (as of 2026-10-21). And in the November 2026 Visa Bulletin, the EB-2 Final Action Date is 2013-11-01 for India but 2025-04-01 for the rest of the world. USCIS requires the Dates for Filing chart for November I-485s, per its adjustment filing charts page; consular cases always use Final Action Dates. Your country of birth can matter more than your employer.

If collection ever resumed, USCIS's H-1B page (dated 2026-09-21) says change-of-status, amendment and extension requests it grants inside the US are not covered, while a denied change of status or a consular-notification petition would be. Petition strategy for an OPT-to-H-1B move is a question for an immigration attorney.

How we checked this: employer figures come from our extract of the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub (compiled 2026-07-29, FY2024 rows); rules, dates and statuses come from the USCIS, DOL, SEVP, Federal Register and court pages above, and the job-cut details from CNBC, Revelio Labs and other reporting on the 2026-10-22 announcement, all read on 2026-11-01.

This is general information, not legal or tax advice; your own I-20, EAD, I-94 and approval notices govern, and your DSO (for OPT and SEVIS questions) or a licensed immigration attorney (for petitions and status strategy) should confirm anything you act on.

If Barclays is on your list, the next step is finding the other banks and tech employers with real filing records for your role, and lining your search up with your OPT dates. F1Jobs helps international candidates run that kind of search.
