Does FedEx Sponsor H-1B Visas? Four FedEx Entities, Data and Logistics-Tech Roles for OPT Grads

FedEx is not one H-1B sponsor but four, and the name with the biggest count merged away in 2024. Here is which FedEx company to search for your role.

Part of our guide to companies that sponsor H-1B visas.

Does FedEx sponsor H-1B visas? Yes, but not as one company. In the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub extract this site uses, FedEx files through at least four legal entities: Federal Express Corporation, FedEx Corporate Services Inc, FedEx Dataworks Inc and FedEx Freight Inc. In FY2024 (October 2023 to September 2024, the year this guide uses for employer counts), they recorded 53 initial-employment approvals and 310 continuing approvals between them (our arithmetic). The legal name on your offer letter decides which record applies to you, and two of the four have changed since mid-2024: Corporate Services merged into Federal Express Corporation, and FedEx Freight became a separate public company.

Where the rules stand (as of 2026-11-01):

Does FedEx sponsor H-1B visas? The short answer

Yes. FedEx files H-1B petitions under several legal names, not one brand. In FY2024 USCIS data, Federal Express Corporation, FedEx Corporate Services, FedEx Dataworks and FedEx Freight recorded 53 initial and 310 continuing approvals combined. Most were continuing employment, so new-hire sponsorship is real but modest, and it varies by entity and role.

Three things decide whether FedEx is a realistic sponsor for you: which FedEx company is hiring, whether the job is a specialty occupation (one that requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific specialty, under 8 CFR 214.2(h)(4)(ii)), and the wage level your offer carries into the weighted lottery.

The four FedEx entities in USCIS data (FY2024)

FedEx Freight IncLess-than-truckload (LTL) business; part of the FedEx Freight spin-off completed 2026-06-01Memphis, TN4 (0)19 (0)2317%
All four (our arithmetic)53 (1)310 (3)36714%

"Initial share" is initial approvals divided by total decisions (our arithmetic). Initial approvals match what USCIS's methodology page calls new employment: a worker starting with a new or the same employer in a different classification, which is where an F-1 OPT graduate's first H-1B falls (our reading). Continuing approvals cover extensions, amendments and transfers from another H-1B employer. For an OPT graduate, the initial column is the better signal, though the Hub never says how many were students.

Common misconception: "FedEx Corporate Services files the most FedEx H-1Bs, so that is where new grads get sponsored."

Correction: 161 of its 169 FY2024 decisions were continuing approvals. FedEx's SEC subsidiary list (as of May 31, 2024) states: "Pursuant to the one FedEx consolidation, on June 1, 2024 FedEx Ground Package System, Inc. and FedEx Corporate Services, Inc. were merged into Federal Express Corporation". Our reading: that record describes a filer that no longer exists on its own, so for new hires in that work, watch Federal Express Corporation.

Why you have to search every FedEx name

When we opened the job search at careers.fedex.com/jobs on 2026-11-02, the first page was almost entirely courier, driver and package-handler listings. The company filter showed Federal Express Corporation regions, FedEx Corporate, FedEx Dataworks and FedEx Logistics (only a handful of openings under Corporate and Dataworks) and no FedEx Freight. We found no FedEx posting with a sponsorship line to quote. Silence is normal: a single-vendor review of 2,718 engineering roles read on 2026-10-13 found 88.1% of postings said nothing about sponsorship, according to Match.dev. Ask instead of guessing.

For the wider sector, our supply chain and logistics H-1B sponsorship guide covers which logistics roles meet the specialty-occupation test, and our Memphis H-1B jobs guide places FedEx next to the city's other sponsors on the Memphis employer hub.

What is FedEx Dataworks?

FedEx Dataworks, Inc. is FedEx's data and analytics subsidiary. FedEx's SEC subsidiary list (as of May 31, 2024) shows it as a Delaware company, and it files H-1B petitions under its own name from a Memphis mailing address: 7 initial approvals, 61 continuing approvals and 2 continuing denials in FY2024.

For a data scientist, data engineer or analytics graduate, Dataworks is the obvious FedEx door, but its record leans toward extensions and transfers of people already on H-1B. Its 7 initial approvals are one-fifth of Federal Express Corporation's 35, so search both names for data roles. Our data science H-1B sponsorship guide covers how data roles are classified and what wage levels they tend to carry.

Does FedEx hire STEM OPT students?

Post-completion OPT needs no sponsorship; any employer can hire you on your EAD for work directly related to your degree. STEM OPT is different: the employer must be enrolled in E-Verify (shown by a valid E-Verify company identification number) and complete its parts of a Form I-983 training plan with you, according to USCIS's STEM OPT page. Confirm enrollment for the exact FedEx company on your offer letter. Our explainer on the STEM OPT E-Verify employer requirement covers how.

The same USCIS page still says USCIS "will automatically extend your employment authorization for 180 days" when you file a STEM OPT extension on time, and that remains in effect as of 2026-11-01. A STEM OPT application filed after your OPT EAD expires gets no 180 days.

Watch the clock while you search: 90 days of unemployment on post-completion OPT and 150 in total on STEM OPT (including days used on post-completion OPT), per the SEVIS Help Hub unemployment counter page. Any "60-day OPT unemployment" claim is wrong; the separate 60-day F-1 grace period after your OPT ends is a different rule. Your DSO confirms how your days are counted.

Cap-gap rules come from USCIS's OPT cap-gap page. FedEx companies are for-profit businesses, not universities or affiliated nonprofits, so a first-time H-1B there is cap-subject; there is no cap-exempt shortcut here.

Two edge cases. Each FedEx company has its own tax ID, so a move between them (say, Federal Express Corporation to Dataworks) is generally a change of employer for H-1B purposes and the new company files its own petition (our reading; confirm with a licensed immigration attorney). On STEM OPT, a change in the employer named on your I-983 has its own reporting steps; ask your DSO.

How to check FedEx's H-1B and green card record yourself

  1. Open the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub, choose fiscal year 2024, and search "FEDEX" and then "FEDERAL EXPRESS" separately. Repeat for later years to see how filings moved after the 2024 merger.
  2. Compare the tax ID digits and city on each row so you know which entity you are reading, then read initial and continuing approvals separately.
  3. Download the LCA disclosure files from the Department of Labor's OFLC performance data page (the latest run through FY2026 Q3, ending 2026-06-30) and filter by each FedEx legal name for job titles, wage levels and worksites.
  4. Download the PERM disclosure files from the same DOL page and filter the same way for green card filings.
  5. Read the work-authorization and sponsorship lines on each posting at careers.fedex.com, and look for FedEx Freight openings through FedEx Freight itself.
  6. Ask the recruiter two plain questions: which legal entity would employ you, and whether the role is eligible for H-1B sponsorship.
  7. Take OPT, STEM OPT and SEVIS questions to your DSO, and petition or green card strategy to a licensed immigration attorney.

Our walkthrough on using LCA data and the Employer Data Hub to build a target list shows these filters step by step.

Does FedEx sponsor green cards?

The Employer Data Hub covers only H-1B. PERM labor certifications appear in DOL's PERM disclosure files (latest public release FY2026 Q3); we have not verified a FedEx PERM count, so we print none. Search each legal name, because a PERM case belongs to the entity that files it.

FedEx is not among the eight employers DOL named in its 2026-10-08 PERM suspension announcement (Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, HCL and Capgemini); that suspension is in effect as announced, with no written notice or end date, and it covers PERM, not H-1B. DOL's FLAG processing times page showed PERM analyst review at January 2026 priority dates as of 2026-10-21 (a 303-day average in its August 2026 row). DOL's PERM labor-market-test proposal (RIN 1205-AC29) cleared White House review on 2026-10-23 but is not published; current PERM rules apply. Our PERM lookup guide shows how to read an employer's green card record.

Is FedEx Freight a separate sponsor?

Yes, twice over. FedEx Freight, Inc. files H-1B petitions under its own name (4 initial and 19 continuing approvals in FY2024), and since June 1, 2026 it is no longer part of FedEx. FedEx announced that day that it had completed the spin-off of FedEx Freight Holding Company, Inc., establishing FedEx Freight "as an independent, publicly traded company," trading on the NYSE as FDXF.

Its jobs and sponsorship decisions now belong to a different employer, and its FY2024 record was set while it was inside FedEx. If you already work there on H-1B or STEM OPT, ask HR whether the separation changed your employing entity or tax ID, then take H-1B questions to a licensed immigration attorney and I-983 questions to your DSO.

Is FedEx Freight a separate sponsor?

Yes. FedEx Freight, Inc. files under its own name (4 initial and 19 continuing approvals in FY2024), and on June 1, 2026 FedEx completed the spin-off of FedEx Freight Holding Company, Inc. as an independent public company (NYSE: FDXF). Search it on its own in USCIS and DOL data, and treat its openings as a different employer from FedEx.

How we checked this: employer figures come from the USCIS Employer Data Hub extract this site uses (FY2024 first decisions); corporate changes from FedEx's SEC Exhibit 21 and FedEx's newsroom; the careers-site snapshot and the rules from FedEx, USCIS, DHS, DOL and Federal Register pages read November 1-2, 2026.

This is general information, not legal or tax advice; your own I-20, EAD, I-94 and notices govern, and your DSO or a licensed immigration attorney should confirm anything that affects your status.
